Uninterested in a specific celebration, Holidays will span the calendar, aiming for a a “collection of subversive holiday tales” to “put a twisted spin on well-known and beloved holidays, including Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and Mother’s Day—to name a few.” Smith and McCarthy are on board, as are some truly exciting new talents, including Starry Eyes’ Kevin Kolsch & Dennis Widmyer, The Midnight Swim’s Sarah Adina Smith and The Dirties’ Matt Johnson. Gary Shore, Scott Stewart and Anthony Scott Burns round out the slate.

I think Mother's Day is one of those things that seems like it should have a hidden deeper meaning, so it has you looking for one that might not actually be there.

One more thing that I liked but didn't mention is that I liked that the bully in Valentine's Day wasn't very traditionally pretty.

Sad that this was mostly a disappointment, but I still look forward to seeing it... *shrug*

I'm actually kind of nervous to watch this due to how the reviews span from terrible to simply "meh." I had a lot of high hopes for this, too.

I'm going to watch it, that's for sure, but I don't have very high hopes at all. Not anymore.

Yeah. This was um....pretty disappointing (wary) I liked the Valentine's Day, Christmas and New Years' segments. The rest were either a mess or kinda lame.

Father's Day had potential until it just fell apart at the end and was completely confusing.

And what the hell was even going on with Mother's Day?

Also, I can't believe Halloween, one of the easiest segments you could even do was the WORST one. It wasn't a bad story per se, but just no. There was nothing really Halloween about it either. In fact, every segment could have felt a little more holiday-ish (except for V-Day and maybe St. Patty's).

I also wish they would have included Thanksgiving, but I imagine that would have been mediocre at best too.

Seriously, this had so much potential to be great, and I.....probably won't be watching this ever again.

I'll post a review later tonight. But yeah, it was good but nothing great. After hearing bad things about it, I expected the worse so I ended up liking it more than I actually expected to but like you, I probably won't watch the full film again anytime soon. I might watch each segment by themselves on their holiday - might make some easier to sit through - but that's probably it.

I'm glad at least someone liked it. I never expected greatness, since most anthology horror flicks with different directors rarely reach greatness.

The movie is entertaining to watch but I really did expect horror anthology greatness.

Neither do/did I.

Like, when Trick 'r Treat 2 comes out, THEN I'll be expecting greatness. Michael Dougherty has no right to fuck me over with that one.

I really need someone to explain 'Father's Day' to me.

Me too. It's still my favorite segment but...the ending didn't really make a whole lot of sense. Same goes for Mother's Day. It was a good segment (even if it didn't feel much like a holiday segment) but the ending was too random and didn't make sense. Meh.

Father's Day is probably my fourth favorite. It easily would have been the best if it wasn't for that ending like I said.

New Year's > Christmas > Valentine's Day > Father's Day

I honestly don't really care for the rest.

The movie doesn't really specify too much, but I think that is the basic idea.

I really wanted to like this more than I did but as it is, I don't DISLIKE it. The biggest issue with this is that several segments ended too abruptly or worse, the makers didn't know HOW to end them so they just threw a boo-scare in and called it good. Meh. I do really like that the segments were ordered as the holidays themselves are (which really makes me wish we'd gotten April Fools Day and Thanksgiving segments).

Valentines Day - This one was pretty decent and was one of the more simple but effective of the bunch. It definitely got my hopes up for the rest of the movie. I liked the main girl in it (though I didn't find the 'hot coach' all that attractive and the bitchy girl seemed more like she would be a 'head bitch's' sidekick than a ringleader) and it had a pretty effective ending.

St Patricks Day - I liked how weird this was, though not a whole lot made complete sense. The ending was absolutely absurd and...kind of stupid. Kudos to them for the admittedly funny-in-a-dumb-way Danny Zuko stuff. The main actress was really pretty<3.

Easter - This segment was actually really disturbing, lol. It was a bit too simple and didn't have enough story to it but it was still good. The effects were great (aside from the transformation in the shadows that looked hokey), the villain's voice was creepy, and it was the only segment that had an effective jumpscare.

Mother's Day - This was another weird one. I liked how it looked and it had a lot of really strange imagery that I appreciated but after a pretty solid build up and some effective moments, it ended in the dumbest way. Seriously, what even went on there? I don't get it but if I had to guess, I'd say that
Spoiler: click to toggle
But even that doesn't make sense because of the final shot.

Father's Day - I'm really hoping Vanessa's theory is correct, lol. As it is, this is still my favorite of the bunch, despite the ending which was too traditionally "BOO" and abrupt for what was a slow, atmospheric, and surprisingly effective segment. I wish this had been featured in an anthology containing only four or five segments, not just eight. With ten extra minutes - perhaps even five - they probably could've explained things better. The music was good too.

Halloween - Between Tusk which was only decent because of its dialogue and this, I'm starting to lose faith in Kevin Smith when it comes to his Horror works and I'm really hoping he bounces back to the high quality greatness that was Red State soon. (un) Like I said to Jared on the phone earlier, I might have liked this more if it had been in an anthology like Tales Of Halloween that ONLY focuses on Halloween. It still would've been one of the lesser segments, I'm sure, but I wouldn't be so "ew" about it and it definitely wouldn't stick out in a bad way. It was pretty satisfying seeing
Spoiler: click to toggle
but it played out in a way that felt kind of try-hard and 'look how vulgar we can be.' Meh.

Christmas - After skipping Thanksgiving (I won't forgive that), it moved on to this which was surprisingly funny and just a wee bit meanspirited. I liked the main couple and the concept of the eye-toy-thing. I kind of wish it had done a better job of explaining exactly why the characters were seeing what they were seeing and it really would've been genuinely creepy if it turned out that users of the 'toy' weren't just conjuring up their own images - they were ALWAYS just seeing memories of the dead (but what the kid saw would cause THAT to not make sense either, lol). Still, I liked it.

New Years Eve - OMG LORENZA IZZO!!! I loved her in this even though her role wasn't all that meaty and she sort of just reminded me of
Spoiler: click to toggle
I liked how this played out even though it was more than just a little bit predictable. Now people can't bitch about Lorenza only ever starring in Eli Roth's things. (troll)

Overall, like I said, it was alright. Definition of a mixed bag and there's only one segment I LOVED (and even then, it could use a longer version and some touch ups).

Father's Day > Christmas > Valentines Day > Easter> New Years Eve > Mothers Day > Halloween > St Patricks Day, I guess.

5.5/10 quality, 6/10 entertainment.

The big problem with coming up with an explanation of what happened in Mother's Day are those final shots. The actresses all had different facial expressions.

Oh jeez, I didn't even notice that. I'm afraid to rewatch that last bit now because it might make me like it even less, lol.

Yeah. Those endings could have been waaaaaayyyy better. And as soon as one story just got interesting that's when the next one would start (d)

I wish they did Thanksgiving and April Fools' Day as well.

I feel like it's taken me three or four days to watch this. I keep watching it and stopping, and I'm still trying to finish it. I'm on Christmas, so I'm almost finished now. I might come back and make a full post with my list of which ones I liked better than others but for right now, my favorite is probably Father's Day.
