What are some Horror franchises that have been totally destroyed beyond repair by numerous bad entries?

House -- Trailers for I, II and III and here's the Trailer for House IV
Poltergeist (the remake looks horrible, just saying)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
From Dusk Till Dawn*
Tremors*
Carrie
Wishmaster
Final Destination
Psycho (have yet to see A&E's Bates Motel, but the first Psycho never needed any sequels)
Lost Boys
Blade*

*includes the TV series

I guess I should be glad I haven't seen those TV shows yet then! (lol) I disagree with Final Destination. FD5 was a HUGE step up from 3 and The Final Destination and pretty much saved the franchise from ending on a sour note. While Psycho II is great, Psycho III is just decent and IV is barely worth mentioning. I'm not one to judge by trailers alone but I think the Poltergeist remake looks pretty decent (not expecting it to be better than the first though).

I stopped after Final Destination 3, but only because I felt the series was getting too jokey. At least the second one had an original cast member from the first one in it. As for the third entry, I only saw it because the DVD had that whole "Choose Their Fate" feature. Has, rather, which wasn't as cool as I thought it'd be.

Sometimes characters don't need to have their stories explained or even furthered. I always choose mystery over explanation when it comes to a great horror character like Norman Bates or Hannibal Lecter. The more you know the scares lessen. Not everyone needs an origin story, or even a sequel.

I agree trailers aren't the best indicators for whether or not a movie's good or bad, but when the company that made your trailer spoils your own movie it's . . . kind of off-putting. Granted, Poltergeist is a remake and those who've seen the original know that

Still, not everyone has seen the original or even read about it. Plus, Jared Harris is no Zelda Rubinstein. Great actor, but he seems more suited for the Exorcist franchise than the Poltergeist franchise. Maybe they could have gotten Linda Hunt instead. About the same height at least and she was in The Relic.

I'm surprised that we haven't mentioned Cabin Fever yet. They need to give that franchise a break at some point.

^ URGH yes. I'm really hoping the upcoming remake is actually good. (wary)

As for the Poltergeist remake, I'm actually GLAD they changed that character so much and got a male actor instead of attempting to have someone copy Zelda's performance in the original, but that's just me.

It's definitely lucky that they abandoned their plans to film another movie right after Patient Zero. It might have been okay if it was able to totally focus on Sean Astin's character, but if they were going to, they would have done that with Patient Zero.

I feel that way about Wrong Turn and they are making another one! I enjoyed the 1st, 2nd and Bloodlines, but all the others were beyond terrible.

I am a huge Leatherface fan and I think TCM has taking some big hits, with the new one, TCM the beginning and Next Generation. I also think Saw would have remained a solid franchise if they wouldn't have gone to the well way too many times. When you are recycling deaths and your blood looks pink....it's time to stop! (bang)

I've changed my mind on a few of these, especially since I never actually watched any of the TV series I put an asterisk by (wary)

House wasn't a good first movie to begin with. I tried rewatching it awhile back and I couldn't make it past 20 minutes.

I don't think the remake ruined the Poltergeist franchise, to be honest. Although, 3 really kept the franchise down for years.

Carrie isn't really a franchise, is it?

I need to actually see the other Psycho movies before I should make a comment about them being bad. Well, the remake is awful. I liked the first season of Bates Motel a lot. I just need to watch the rest of it now.
