Surprised no one here has seen this (assuming anyway). I just saw it about a week ago (blind buying!) and it was actually really good (don't judge it by its cheesy cover/poster). The main setting was awesome, creepy looking, appropriately run down and the perfect place for the bulk of this. I do wish they had made the hospital more claustrophobic though since that would've worked wonders for this, but I can't complain since the look of it made up for that. Much like The Exorcist III, this relied more on creepiness and descriptions of the killings than the gore and the killings themselves. It had its fair share of violence but it wasn't as bloody as its implied bodycount may suggest. I'm fine with that since this didn't try to be a slasher film (it would've made a damn good straight-up-slasher though, haha) and was more of a character study/creepy thriller-horror than anything. I loved and hated the four main characters (well...except for Beth who was on edge for good reason and didn't really piss me off, haha). Beth was a pretty nice secondary character who I wish had a bigger part in the main events in the story, but oh well. I liked her. Rosalyn was a GREAT lead - I loved her backstory, how developed she was, and how she wasn't entirely 'all there.' It's pretty hard to play 'crazy but sane' (if that makes sense, lol) but Sara Foster did so and did it well. Cary Elwes was better here than he was in most movies I've seen him in and while his character was one of the more interesting, I didn't LOVE him. Cole was really hot but did nothing but piss me off. Sure, I can understand his frustrations with Rosalyn and why the situation and her past was weighing down on him but c'mon dude...be fucking sensitive. "GET OVER IT! It's not my fault you can't fuckin' have kids" is NOT how you fix things with a person like her. Detective Marling was decent enough but wasn't as interesting as I wanted him to be (or maybe I just didn't care?) and I have a feeling i just liked him because he was played by Michael Biehn.I really don't want to say much more since i don't want to spoil much, but overall I was really satisfied. Despite the odd, slightly confusing (I'm still trying to figure it all out, lol) ending, this managed to be one of the better GhostHouse Underground films I've seen. 6.5/10 quality, 7.5/10 entertainment. |
