I have no idea how this one managed to slip through the cracks until like a week before the release. I'm actually looking forward to this one. |

I like that instead of the usual romantic relationship that's tackled in something like this, they're going for a father-daughter story instead. I'll give this a watch for that alone. |

Shame that this isn't playing anywhere near me, even with the mixed reviews. I was down the moment I read "Arnold Schwarzenegger" and "zombie movie". And IIRC, Chloe Grace Moretz was originally attached to this at one point. |

Yeah, I can't find it in any of the theaters near me either. Boo. Maybe the cheap theater near me will get it in a week or so. They tend to get things a little late.

I'm glad that it was at least released on VOD on the same day. I was hoping it would be playing somewhere in Pittsburgh tomorrow, but it isn't. Box Office Mojo says it's opening in 79 theaters. |

It made $187,112 in theaters. No surprise if it really did open in under one hundred. |

Finally saw this yesterday after having sat on my shelf (still in its wrapping) for well over a month. I liked it. I'm a sucker for strong father/child films, but I do have to say that I felt that Arnie was kind of missing through most of this flick. While shot beautifully, the film was kind of slow, which I could say plays to the whole point of Maggie's very slow infection/turning. What I didn't really care for was how the movie just kind of ends, it doesn't really leave you tugging at the heart strings (or at least it didn't for me.) I'm glad I finally got to watch it, but I'm just wishing it was a little bit better. It's that movie that'll probably sit on my shelf again for a really long time before I finally decide to watch it again. Great actors though, it's probably the movie's strongest point. |

The father-daughter story arc is so much more refreshing than a romance one. I feel like anyone who is a parent would likely enjoy this film. |

I need to watch this one soon to hopefully balance out Abigail Breslin's disappointing acting in Scream Queens and Final Girl. My first copy ended up not working, and I keep forgetting about it. |

This is actually a good film. It's different, VERY different from most zombie films. It's actually a very moving, beautiful film. It is sad it didn't get the recognition it deserved. Abigail and Ahhhnuld both did fantastic jobs with their respective roles in the film. It's a beautiful film about the love between a father and his daughter. Definitely different from most zombie films as of late. A lot more thoughtful. |

^ Agreed completely. It's not an instant favorite of mine and chances are that I won't watch it again anytime soon unless I'm in the mood to totally feel like crap, but for the most part, it was really great. For a PG-13 film, it was pretty violent and without being overly gory or explicit, it had a bit of edge to it. I really liked how gloomy and drained the whole thing looked. It had that perfect apocalyptic feel without going overboard and scifi-y with it. The locations were also nice too and some of the houses made me think of things like The Walking Dead. The characters were really well developed. The relationships are nothing we haven't seen before but they were still watchable and for the most part, felt organic. I really wish Bobby, Molly, Caroline (I LOVED Joely in this role!) and some of the other secondary characters had more to do. The kids alone would've been a great source of conflict. I feel like they missed out on that. This is definitely one of Abigail's stronger performances. She was much better here than she was in both Scream Queens and Final Girl which has me thinking that she should probably stick to more grounded, sympathetic, believable Horror roles. There are a few deaths in this but they were more for emotional impact, not for 'ooh look at dat severed head' The stuff with the fox really bothered me. The ending also bothered me. A lot of things here really bothered me. And made me sad. So mission accomplished. Thanks filmmakers for the most depressing zombie film of the year. ![]() 6.5/10 quality. 7/10 entertainment I guess. |

Yeah, it was a very bleak, sad film. If you're looking for a film with a neat little bow on it at the end, don't go for Maggie. |

I didn't much like this one, actually. I did really enjoy the set design, which I thought was full of small touches that helped develop the film's world. I also liked the cinematography. It was the one thing that really helped set the mood for me. I liked both of the lead performances. I think it's emotional and moving for a zombie movie staring a big action star. I don't think it is all that remarkable when compared to movies generally. Other than the zombie stuff, it all seemed really mundane. It felt like when they decided to make a zombie movie as though it were directed by Terrence Malick that they took out something important to stick the zombies in and the zombies weren't interesting enough to take that place. |

I had a conversation with Jonathan about the film, and he brought up a great point. The film almost feels like it could've been any kind of film, not just a zombie film. It could've been a movie about a contagious epidemic virus of some kind. It could've been a movie about vampirism. It could've been a movie about virtually ANYTHING, and the plot still would've worked. I think the main plot had nothing to do with the zombies... Much at all... Yes, the daughter turning is the major plot point of the story, but the true importance of the story is simply a father's undying love for his daughter. Like I said, it didn't even have to be zombies. It could've been any number of things, and the plot still would've worked. |

Yes it would have, and that's what made this movie work. It does bring to mind what would have been best for the movie though. I kind of like the idea of the epidemic, but its similar to Carriers. |

I really do quite like it using the zombie idea, though. Most films don't hold a candle to the likes of Return of the Living Dead III in terms of loving someone even though they're a zombie, but I'd say this one actually is right on-par with it, even though they're very, very, VERY different types of films. |
