A vision of an apocalyptic future set in the wastelands of Australia. Total social decay is just around the corner in this spectacular cheap budget gang orientated road movie, where the cops do their best to lay down the law and the outlaw gangs try their hardest to defy the system. Leather clad Max Rockatansky husband, father and cop turns judge, juror and executioner after his best friend, wife and baby are killed. Here we see the final days of normality of a man who had everything to live for, and his slip into the abyss of madness. Mad Max is the antihero on the road to vengeance and oblivion.

When people think of Mad Max, they think of the sequels. This film is VERY different from its sequels. So different if someone unfamiliar with these films saw MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and then watched this one, they probably wouldn't believe they were technically canon (Bond style).

^ I don't know if I should be worried or not. I really liked the gritty style, the look, and feel of this but at the same time I'm glad that the sequels go a different route. I have a bad feeling that they get all SciFi with it all though, which is 'ew.' (wary) I'll still watch the other three though.

I watched this for the first time the other night and for the most part, despite all of its flaws and random shit, I liked it a lot. I don't think it is AS good as many people have made it out to be (damn you, hype) but it's still pretty satisfying and definitely packs a punch at times. There are a few pretty harsh scenes of the biker gang hurting/killing people and the big attack that

was really shocking despite not being super graphic. I was just surprised that they had the guts to DO that since this didn't seem like the sort of film to go that route. Maybe this is where

This has to be the gayest straight-guy movie I've ever seen. We get a ton of really crazy, flamboyant acting guys, biker boys, a leather daddy, some very awkward queen-y dialogue, and Mel Gibson looking absolutely fucking GORGEOUS....and wearing leather. Leather, leather, leather. If this were a Smell-O-Vision movie, it would probably just smell like leather, gasoline and sex (but no, there isn't any gay sex in this). (lol)

This also has a few really great stunts, some neat car/bike chases, and a few applause-worthy death scenes. Nothing gory or whatever, but it gets the job done. The pacing is kind of all over the place. It starts off really fast and mean, continues that way for a while and then comes to a screeching halt for OVER TWENTY MINUTES before going batshit for the last ten minutes or so, lol. I didn't mind too much since Max was a very watchable (and did I already say 'gorgeous?') lead. (coffee)

6/10 quality, 7/10 entertainment.
