Three scouts, on the eve of their last camp-out, discover the true meaning of friendship when they attempt to save their town from a zombie outbreak.

Moving it now. (thumbsup)

I'm honestly not surprised to hear that. I'm still going to see it as soon as I can though. It's not playing within an hour and a half of me though. My theaters are dry for Halloween except for The Shining (which I'm seeing at 6:45p.m.).

This was pretty much what I expected it to be and that's...actually a good thing, haha. Robby and I caught a 10p.m. showing and we were two of the only people in there, unfortunately.

So I really liked most of the characters. A lot of the interactions were hilarious and there were a few realistically awkward/cute moments (I really liked the random 'kiss practicing' scene). The main guy, Ben, reminded me of a slightly more shy version of my boyfriend. I probably shouldn't have been (goo) 'ing over him so heavily since he was only like 18 when this was made (perhaps even 17, yikes). He was really likeable. I expected to hate Carter since he came across as a bit of a tool at first but I ended up really liking him. The zombie-boob-squeeze (with Soulja Boy playing!!!) was priceless. I felt bad for Augie. He made me cringe multiple times but that's probably because I've met so many people like him who refused to grow up and let certain things go. David Koechner was great as the scout leader but I really wish he had gotten more to do. Denise was gorgeous, funny, and I really wish Ben had wanted to get with her instead of Carter's boring two-scene-sister Kendall who was barely even a character. More time was spent talking ABOUT Kendall than time spent with her onscreen. (un) Kendall's boyfriend was a dick too. But he was hot. The other teens were kind of wasted.

I hate that

I guess that would've been forced but whatever.

This is really bloody but it's not 'serious bloody.' It's not quite cartoonish though. Think Shaun Of The Dead but with more flat out gross-out moments. Of course, this isn't BETTER than Shaun Of The Dead (I don't see any zombie comedy beating it, haha) but it's better than many, MANY other zombie comedies (and even straightforward/serious zombie films I've seen).

The pacing was a little slow at first. The opening was funny and gross but went on a little bit too long. I loved the use of popular, well known songs throughout this. Some parts made me feel like I stepped back into the late 2000s for a second. :P I do wish we had gotten larger clusters of zombies and even more scenes of the leads killing zombies (we got plenty but I still wanted a couple more).

Overall, this is really fun and entertaining with some attractive people, likeable characters, hilarious moments, and enough bloodshed to keep most gorehounds satisfied. Certainly not my favorite of the year but it's definitely one of my favorite zombie films of the year. (thumbsup)

6/10 quality, 8.5/10 entertainment.

Girl, don't go see this with a guy or you'll be 'distracted' the whole time. I know you. (coffee)

^ I've never done theater stuff with a guy lol. When I go to see movies, I go to see movies. I go to SEE movies.

The only time I ever goofed on in a theater with a guy was with Luke when it was an empty theater when we went to see Hot Pursuit. And when I say goof off, I mean nothing dirty. We just talked a lot and made fun of the lame movie, and made fun of Amy Schumer for some reason, even though she wasn't even in the movie.

Redboxed this last night and watched it this morning. I was quite happy with it, as it was exactly what I was wanting from it: an enjoyable, light-hearted horror-comedy and nothing more. This has been a pretty rough past few days, so all I really wanted was something enjoyable, and man, did I get it.

This is very much a movie for boys. I've read countless reviews talking about how sexist it is (even though the toughest character in the film is a female), and how every joke is one towards women. Sure, there is a lot of low-brow humor, from diarrhea, to zombies eating people out, to zombies swallowing severed penises, to gay jokes, to boys fondling zombie chick breasts, etc. Sure, it's immature as all get out, but I wouldn't go so far to call it nearly as sexist as people are saying. Immature, yes. Perhaps not feminist, but not quite misogynistic, either, seeing as, like I said, one of the most heroic characters of the film is a chick. It's clear this movie was made from a young male gaze, particularly a frat boy humored type of guy, but that's exactly what I expected from a movie about BOY SCOUTS FIGHTING ZOMBIES. I mean, yes, the boob-feeling scene can be taken as sexist, and in some ways it is, but I wouldn't nearly call this the most sexist horror film I've ever seen like some people are, particularly since most of the violence in the movie is towards male zombies and not human women.

The gore in this movie was quite enjoyable. The kills were pretty good, and some were pretty damn fun to watch (such as the ball-shooting gun bursting the heads of three zombies in a row). The movie camped it up throughout and never lost its silly, frilly edge, which I quite liked.

Cloris Leachman was hysterical, as always. I love that she's an Oscar-winning actress who is truly capable of pure masterful, serious art, yet she's perfectly happy to do roles like this, in which she plays a zombie that eats a teenage boy's ass. She has never lost her sense of humor, and it's awesome that even in her 80s, she's willing to do these kinds of roles with sheer glee and enjoyment.

The characters were also very likable. Carter was pretty annoying for the most part, and most of the sexist humor came from his character, but more than anything, it is played at his expense, making him look like a douchebag when compared to Augie and Ben. For the most part, though, all of the mains were easy to root for. We don't get to see much of the side characters, such as Kendall and her asshole "friends," but the trio of Scouts and the character of Denise were all very likable and fun to watch. They all had great chemistry.

On the subject of Denise, though,

Overall, sexist jokes aside, gory violence aside, this was a fun movie that always seemed to have its heart in the right place. It's a surprisingly sweet, cute movie, as well as being immature, hilarious, and violent. I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes horror-comedies.

I don't recommend it to feminazis.

I'm glad that most of the people I've talked to about this share our opinions about the whole Kendall thing. I didn't like her nearly as much as the main-ish girl. (wary)

Kendall was too small of a character for me to actually care. I mean, I get why the ended it the way they did, and it was nice, but Denise was so much better.

The more I think about this movie, the more fond of it I become. In a year that really was disappointing in terms of truly GOOD horror-comedies, based on my experience so far, this movie felt so fresh. It had a heart, but the heart wasn't forced. It had a lot of bro humor in it, but it never felt overly annoying. It had good kills. Its humor was never forced. A satisfying climax. ( ;) ;) ) It really was one of my favorite movies of the year, and may even become one of my favorite horror-comedies. Yes, right up there with The Convent and Dead & Breakfast. That may be dramatic, but it's how I feel in this moment.

Definitely a cult classic in the making, similar to the way that Idle Hands is.

Agreed. I didn't particularly like this movie (and, honestly, I don't think that Idle Hands has really held up either), but back when I first saw it, I called it as a future cult classic once it hits Netflix and late-night basic cable. It's dumb as all hell, but it's a perfect "midnight movie" to watch with friends and plenty of alcohol and/or marijuana. Club Dread is another horror-comedy like that IMO: not what I'd call a good film, but hard to really dislike either, and seemingly made for watching with a group or putting on the TV at a Halloween party.
