![]() Inspired by actual events, “#HORROR” centers on a group of 12-year-old girls who face a night of terror when the compulsive addiction of an online social media game turns a moment of a cyber bullying to a night of insanity. “#HORROR” examines a world of escalating cruelty and alienation through an online game where scoring likes comes at the cost of human lives. I really really disliked this. Overally, the movie had me really questionably what the point of it was supposed to be. Normally, there's no problem with a slasher movie having unlikable characters that you want to see killed. I usually like to have at least one that I like, but not liking anyone isn't anything that would definitely make me dislike a movie. There is something really contradictory about it in a message movie about bullying. The characters were not very developed. The characterizations were a mix of stereotypes and explanations as to why they were bullies. The movie also uses serious mental illnesses as an almost forgettable aspect of the story. It comes across as unintentionally malicious. The style was good, but I think it actually hurt the film in some ways. I liked the framing internet obnoxious thing some of the times that it was used, but I think the audience got the point after the first couple of times. The movie did not make very good use of time, so repeating it got annoying. There were individual scenes that I liked the style of, but I think they detracted from the movie's plot. I thought the girls did a generally good job with the difficult material. The adult cast members were actually the ones that disappointed me. Some of the adults' lines were real clunkers. |

It is so weird that they're doing the whole thing of promoting this all over again for the dvd release. I would have thought that this would be one of the ones that IFC Midnight would just cut their losses on and move on to the next thing. |

I'm about 5 minutes into this... I'm already pretty meh about it. The opening credits were a bit too overzealous for their own good. The main girl (I'm assuming) is a brat so far. I like Natasha Lyonne, though... But she's usually likable in just about anything. |

This film was a jumbled mess. It looked gorgeous. It had some REALLY great cinematography, but it was so so so SO poorly utilized here, man. Plus, I am sick to death of the whole "today's teens are crazy, self-absorbed, vapid, soulless, technology-obsessed sociopathic bullies" message that every other film dealing with youth tries to have these days. It's not true, for one thing, and it's gotten to the point of pure predictability and boredom. Be more creative with your films about teen culture, for crap's sake. The opening credits were annoying, which sucks because that idea could've been used awesomely... Same goes for the #blahblahblah# picture taking moments. They were so overused that we were being beaten over the head with the "vapid teen" theme so hard that I felt like WE were the true victims of the script, not the bitchy teen girls who no one roots for. Plus, I had no clue what the hell was going on. That one chick was psychic just because. Natasha Lyonne was there just because. Cat was absolutely insane... Just because. Nothing really had a reason to it, even though the film seemed to think it was harboring some epic subtext when it really was just a rehash of ideas that have been done to death, and usually better. The director really needs to stick to acting. Directing and screenwriting are not your forte, dear. It felt like a bad hodge podge of better ideas. It was like she was trying to mesh Gregg Araki's Teenage Apocalypse trilogy's visual flair and tone (which, by the way, did the whole disaffected teens in a crazy situation thing much better and more stylishly), with the visual flair of Julie Taymor (think Across the Universe, only fucking terrible), with the cyber bullying plot of Unfriended, with a wannabe Wes Craven slasher story that doesn't work at all. Add that to a bunch of bad acting and dialogue, put it in a blender, and viola. There you have it. The shitty movie smoothie that is #Horror. 4/10 Edited by Neurotic Chainsaw, Apr 11 2016, 01:59 AM.

Ehh, I don't think I can disagree with you about how teens were portrayed here, though I think that the likes of Unfriended were a bit more realistic when it came to showing teenagers. Believe it or not (perhaps you're just lucky when it comes to your students), teenagers are pretty fucked up. But they're no more fucked up than people OUR age (though people our age were fucked up as teenagers as well). This was just way exaggerated and it made the kids annoying for the sake of annoying. It's one of those self-back-patting movies that thinks it's saying more than it actually is. |

Unfriended is the best example of teenagerdom done realistically, that's for sure... Especially compared to this film. |

Randomly saw this again and it doesn't deserve a 3.3 on imdb even if the script and characters are still super weak. Georgie and Cat are still absolutely awful in every way though. |
