In the ruthless underground world of the yakuza, no one is more legendary than boss Kamiura. Rumored to be invincible, the truth is he is a vampire-a bloodsucking yakuza vampire boss! Among Kamiura's gang is Kageyama, his most loyal underling. However, the others in the gang view Kageyama with disdain and ridicule him for his inability to get tattooed due to sensitive skin. One day, assassins aware of boss Kamiura's secret arrive from abroad and deliver him an ultimatum: Return to the international syndicate he left years ago, or die. Kamiura refuses and, during a fierce battle with anime-otaku martial-arts expert Kyoken, is torn limb from limb. With his dying breath, Kamiura bites Kageyama, passing on his vampire powers to the unsuspecting yakuza. As he begins to awaken to his newfound abilities, Kageyama's desire to avenge the murder of boss Kamiura sets him on a course for a violent confrontation with Kaeru-kun, the foreign syndicate's mysterious and seemingly unstoppable leader!

There's so much to this I like I can't begin to express how much this interests me. Martial arts, kung-fu, HK comedy, vampirism, that's just the start of it all. Really looking forward to this one.

Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs.

This sounds pretty fucking crazy. (lol) I might have to check this out but it proooobably won't be one that I watch with Robby or anyone else just in case it's a jumbled mess.

I would probably watch it by yourself.

I may like this a bit more than a horror fan that doesn't like yakuza movies. This isn't one that you have to get the references to enjoy, but I think the funny to weird balance is a but different if you do. There are some things that are parodying 70s yakuza movies that wouldn't be funny without that reference.

There is also a scene with a homage to Battles Without Honor and Humanity that is awesome either way.

This is still a bit of a mixed bag. I had some good laughs watching it. I liked that it managed to stay surprising by switching between nutty indulgence and normalcy with enough frequency for it to never not be jarring. I also thought that it worked that they used it being incomprehensible as a plot point and source of humor. Two of my favorite characters were totally unexpected because the scenes of their total confusion ended up being some of my favorite parts of the movie.

There was some stuff I didn't like as much. It did lag a bit around the middle. The action choreography isn't as good as I was expecting with this cast. I also really wish there was more of the civilians. A couple gags were a little too one note.

The opening was pretty crazy and definitely had me hopeful that this would be something I'd love. There's a lot of really bloody scenes in this that I appreciated and the fights, while not super impressive, were decent enough. The foot stomping scene was great. I was kind of thrown off (in a good way) when characters would start speaking other languages.

The costumes were really nice. I especially liked the frog costume and the weird bird/turtle costume. Kageyama frying the egg on his hand was another cool bit and the lengthy scene leading up to him

was one of the strongest in the movie. I didn't really care for the story but it's not like this was trying to make total sense or be something more than a weird, over-the-top thing so I guess I don't mind. But at two hours long, things probably shouldn't have been as confusing and nonsensical, lol. I think 'captain' (forgot the character's name) was my favorite. She should've gotten more 'big things' to do though.

The dynamite bit was perfect and was one of the few parts of this that actually made me laugh. The civilian crops stuff was weird and disturbing. The punching scene at the end went on like...one full minute too long. The last thirty seconds = one big fat "WTF." I don't know if I want a sequel but they seemed to leave it open for one.

I don't really know what to think of this. It was MOSTLY enjoyable and it was really pretty, mostly well shot, and the performances were just the right amount of over-the-top. Some of the dialogue was funny and I liked (most of) the effects but it's probably not something I'll watch again and I'm kind of glad I watched it alone.

5.5-6/10 quality, 6.5/10 entertainment.
