This Hugo Award-winning graphic novel chronicles the fall from grace of a group of super-heroes plagued by all-too-human failings. Along the way, the concept of the super-hero is dissected as the heroes are stalked by an unknown assassin.

This is my favorite send up of the superhero genre. I think it does a good job of utilizing tropes and allusions while still telling an interesting story. I feel like a lot of comics that try to do the same thing end up being silly or juvenile, so I think this is still really unique and refreshing.

I am overwhelmed with options, and I needed to break in this section with something simple. This is what is happening inside my head, though:

I love this book so much<3. I might have seen the movie before I read it; I'm not sure. I prefer the book, obviously, but I still liked the movie a lot. I should probably reread this.

Was this ever released in individual comic form or has it always just been the 400+ page graphic novel? Probably a stupid question.

Originally it was a mini-series, released one issue at a time.

Love this book. Alan Moore -- space cadet though he may be -- is a hell of a writer. I remember the first time I read this series, I couldn't wait for each new issue. And the movie I thought was fantastic. And honestly, as huge an admirer as I am of the book, I thought the movie's ending worked better (though I may be in the minority).

Has anyone read the Before Watchman stuff? I wanted to wait until they were all released, but I just realized that was a few years ago.

I don't know why, but I never managed to finish reading my copy. I stopped just a few pages before Rorschach's death.

I'm aware of them but was never tempted to check them out. Alan Moore didn't write them so obviously there's no way they're going to be as good as the original, so it just seems like it'd be a waste of time, y'know? I've heard mixed reviews, though. Most DC/Moore loyalists spoke well of them, but most of the more objective fans I've talked to didn't have much good to say about them.
