A documentary about conspiracy theories takes a horrific turn after the filmmakers uncover an ancient and dangerous secret society.

As fake documentaries go, this one is rather convincing. Secret societies make a nice change of pace from all the ghosts and bigfoots, too. They also managed to turn the little issues that pop up when making a horror mockumentary, like blurring faces and deciding what material should realistically be shown, into something clever that actually improves the movie after the viewer things about it. The first act plays a lot like a regular documentary, and it doesn't veer totally into horror territory until the third one. I enjoyed that they played both sides a bit. It includes a massive number of conspiracy theories, but it also has brief moments that poke a bit of fun at the whole thing. It reminded me a lot of The Sacrament, but not quite as good. It's still definitely good enough to be deserving of the increased attention that getting put on Netflix seems to be giving it.

Overall, I liked how they played with history, even if I would have preferred more Bohemian Grove and less 9/11.

It's been awhile since I've seen this, but yeah. Definitely liked it. The faux-documentary stuff is fairly convincing and works well, the plot is interesting, etc. The ending needed to be shored up a bit, but I like the idea of what they were going for (though the execution feels pretty anti-climactic, and even downright illogical, on a first viewing until you take a second to actually think about and what the idea behind it was) Overall one of the stronger FF movies I've seen

And man, it's so nice to see FF movies where the leads aren't whining and bickering about why they should/shouldn't stop filming. I remember the two guys being okay enough leads.

Puppy, just because there's no evidence she killed her aunt doesn't make her dating material.
