![]() Some say that all houses have memories. For one man, his home is the place he would kill to forget. A family unknowingly moves into a home where several grisly murders were committed...only to find themselves the killer's next target. Successful publisher Will Atenton (Craig) quit a job in New York City to relocate his wife, Libby (Weisz), and two girls to a quaint New England town. But as they settle into their new life, they discover their perfect home was the murder scene of a mother and her children. And the entire city believes it was at the hands of the husband who survived. When Will investigates the tragedy, his only lead comes from Ann Paterson (Watts), a neighbor who was close to the family that died. As Will and Ann piece together the disturbing puzzle, they discover that the story of the last man to leave Will's dream house will be just as horrifying to the one who came next. |

I think I heard about this a few years ago but it sort of fell off my radar even though it has two favorite actors of mine (Daniel and Naomi<3) until I found it again at Mr Groovys a little over a week ago for two bucks. I watched it not knowing what to expect (and not knowing much about the plot) which is probably for the best since the fucking DVD case spoils a big plot point randomly! There's a pretty enormous twist in this and it's easy to get lost around the halfway mark if you weren't paying close attention for the ten minutes before that so it's best to watch this with no distractions. It's not the most 'out there' twist I've seen but it definitely caught me off guard. I was expecting this to just be a generic Spoiler: click to toggle The basic set up of this sort of reminds me of the set up of Sinister, with this family being in the place of the Sinister family and Naomi taking on the sort of role that Angela Bettis had in Sinister (before Angela's scenes were cut, that is). For the most part, this does a really good job of blending past events with present events (almost like Oculus did but not AS effective or well done) and it blends the murder mystery aspects with the supernatural aspects without going over the top and stupid with things. The performances were all really good though no one was award worthy imo. The reveals were well handled and I loved the last twenty minutes or so. 6.5/10 quality, 7.5/10 entertainment. |

I watched this mainly because I loved the main actors and was interested in seeing them in a horror light, but it was a really boring film. I guessed the twist from the poster/trailers and it just wasn't worth investing in. Thankfully, working at the theater at the time, I got to see it for free. |
