This came out on VOD today. It kind of snuck up. It's going to be showing in theaters Oct. 23rd.

I'm not 100% sure which category to put this in.

Ooh<3. The poster alone has me sold. I take it that each film will have a different animation style?

Oh SHIT! This is yet ANOTHER one that slipped past me! (shock) I might watch it tonight if I can't sleep early as planned. Damn 11a.m. hospital trips.

Just saw and liked it although I will only recommend if you like Poe or diverse and different styles of animation. The wrap around segment could have been better but the stories are worked well. The Masque of Red Death was easily my favorite both with visuals and the execution of the story. I felt upset after watching it.

I liked the different animation styles. Fall Of The House Of Usher had an odd video game look sometimes. Christopher Lee's narration of that was great. I'm glad that, throughout the entire film, the dialogue wasn't overly modern. Some of the music in this was really nice and the voice acting was only bad in a couple of scenes.

If you're not fond of Poe, you won't like this, I'm sure. The wraparound story was alright. I liked what it was meant to be but the ending of it could've used some work. It just fell a bit flat after a mostly good build up.

Bela Lugosi's narration of The TellTale Heart was also really good but I kind of wish they'd gotten rid of some of the audio crackle. It's a forgivable issue though. That segment had a really cool (but sometimes blinding) look. The comic book style of "The Facts In The Case..." was really awesome. It's not a story I'm overly familiar with, unlike the rest of them. It had good narration and a couple of genuinely freaky images. I loved that each segment got its own cool opening credits scene.

The Pit And The Pendulum REALLY looked like a video game but it actually worked for it. The rats looked especially convincing and it appears to be the most expensive segment. The Masque Of The Red Death had an almost (old school) Disney look to it that I really appreciated. It went by fairly quickly and also had some creepy stuff.

It's not a GREAT anthology but it's pretty creative and visually satisfying for the most part.

6/10 quality, 6/10 entertainment.

I intended to review this after I made gifs, since this is the kind of thing that spending a good amount of time looking at it closely would have a big effect on my opinion. I ended up spacing them out a bit too much, and I only have three segments gifed so far.

How much I liked each segment completely depended on how much I liked the art. "The Facts In The Case..." was easily my favorite, which I'm sure is really surprising, lol. I loved the use of complementary colors. It was very striking. I also liked "The Fall of the House of Usher." That style is actually one of my favorites for video games, especially when those kinds of character designs are put in front of contrasting backgrounds. I liked Tell Tale Heart okay, but I think I'm still a little disappointed that I didn't really find it all that inspiring when it came time to look at it really closely.

Ah, you liked some of the ones I liked. I just loved how detailed and realistic The Pit And The Pendulum looked. Every now and then, some parts of the movie (in general, not just one segment) made me think of that video game Killer 7. That was pretty nice (it's a great game but DAMN, it's hard (un) ).

I completely forgot that this was on Netflix until I suddenly started getting notes on my gif sets from this movie. I really need to finish making those.
