In a massive, mysterious chamber, fifty strangers awaken to find themselves trapped with no memory of how they got there. Organized in an inward-facing circle and unable to move, they quickly learn that every two minutes, one of them must die... executed by a strange device in the center of the room. At first, the attacks seem random, but soon the strangers realize that they, as a group, have the power to decide who will be the next to be killed. A vote. A chance to control the machine. But how can they choose who deserves to die? And what happens when there's only one person left? Circle is a film about people, how they value one another, and what they do under the worst possible circumstances. A film about what makes us human - who we are, what we believe, and ultimately, the lengths we will go to save ourselves.

I just saw this.
So, this is a bunch of stereotypes in a circle trying to survive. Peoples true colours emerge..blah blah...nothing we havent seen before.

So this was sort of unlike almost anything I've seen...but that's mainly because while I have seen this exact same story (minus a certain element that I'll get to soon), I haven't ever seen it involve FIFTY CHARACTERS. Usually we get 12 or 13 at most and we see the conflicts between them. Here, we have conflicts emerging among over four DOZEN characters, making this a pretty raw, fast, and very human Horror/Thriller.

My favorite thing about this is the cast. I didn't recognize many of the actors/actresses in this (Julie Benz though - what was SHE doing in this?! (lol) ) but the characters are all clearly defined. Many of them are almost stereotypes but I suppose I'm okay with that. This is an 87 minute movie with 50 characters and a death every 2 or 3 minutes. I was expecting that going into it. I'd certainly hope anyone would. For what it's worth, they did a pretty great job of giving us a glimpse at who almost everyone (aside from five or six of them) was without spending too much time on any one character.

We have an old Hispanic woman grieving over the loss of her son, a black man who sees the voting order as an act of racism, a homophobic lawyer, a doctor and a man she had an affair with, a breast cancer survivor, a gay banker, a lesbian, an Atheist, an ex pornstar (or was she? (lol) ), a veteran, a little girl, a pregnant woman, an amputee, a Muslim woman, a depressed teen, a married couple, a cop, a gang member/woman abuser, and literally dozens of others crammed into a circle. It's quite lovely and they also did a really good job of making the death order completely random. There were TEN people who I was sure would be the last ten standing. Only two of them ended up making it past the 60 minute mark.

There are a few pretty emotional moments as well that caught me by surprise. I love that the dialogue and each death kept things flowing quickly and that the film never slowed down at all. It was also nice that things went from heartfelt to jolting/surprising to cold and angry to quiet and suspenseful, sometimes all in the same scene. The ending was a bit of a surprise too since I had no doubt whatsoever that this would

But maybe I shouldn't be surprised since this played out almost exactly like the best seasons of Survivor with many different alliances, swingvotes, backstabbing, ties, throwaway votes, revotes, power plays, and a lot of manipulation and strongarming. :P I really want this movie to turn into a game show (but without people actually dying, obviously). 50 people in a 2 hour show could be pretty intense.

The ending with

Wise move on the makers' parts.

It would've been nice to have more variety with the kills but since this wasn't meant to be a gorefest and was more about how suddenly the characters die and guessing when certain people will die, who will die, and who will live, I'm fine with it being pretty much bloodless.

One of my new favorites of the year<3.

7/10 quality, 9/10 entertainment.

I watched this the other night and it was heck of an emotional trip.

I really did like it. I felt genuinely hurt when my favorite characters died, even though I knew the chances of them surviving were relatively low. I think a lot of the fun with this movie is that you don't know who's going to survive and this magic is lost when you see it again.

I would recommend it to others (and already have for some. This was a really intense and fast-paced movie that grabs your attention early on and literally never lets you go.

Who were your favorites? <3.

I liked the older Hispanic woman, the cancer survivor, the translator, the lesbian, the pregnant girl, the wife, the doctor and the guy she had a connection with, and a handful of the others. I hate that three or four of my favorites became total ASSHOLES (which is why there's only one man in my current top eight favorites, haha).

I liked:

The Cancer Survivor
The Soldier
The One Armed Man
The Hispanic Woman (with the son)
The Black Business Woman
The Lesbian
The Pregnant Woman
and Eric (don't really know how to describe him without describing the others. This is how he's listed on IMDB)
and a few others

As for the douchebags I ABSOLUTELY HATED AND WISHED THEY'D DIED SOONER:

The Bank Teller
The Atheist
The Racist Black Guy
The Convict
The Lawyer
The Bearded Guy
The College Guy
and a few others, but not as much as these ones.

I liked this movie, but something kept me from loving it. I'm not sure what though.

^ You just wanted gore, Jared. (troll)

I wish we had gotten more bickering between some of the women. We had A LOT of strong female characters but the women usually argued with men and the men were the ones who argued with men AND women. We needed more girl vs. girl debates. :P

The Hispanic Woman's big scene was probably my favorite scene in the movie. It was a nice, emotional break from all of the fighting (which I still loved) and it was one of the only times everyone else in the group seemed sort of peaceful and...nice to someone. (lol) Except for the Atheist. He was still a prick. But at least he wasn't being a prick WHILE she was explaining her situation.

I keep forgetting about the One Armed Man! I liked him too<3.

The Black Businesswoman (aka The Doctor) was a favorite. She reminded me of one of my characters from my The Cube script (how appropriate!). They should've gotten Lindy Booth to play the pregnant girl. The actress they chose kind of reminded me of a quiet version of her sometimes.

I'm definitely showing this movie to my parents soon.

The Cancer Survivor is definitely in my top three. I like how she was really sympathetic and likeable but still more than willing to 'play the game.' In other words, she was like the best Survivor contestants out there. I really want a game show of this, like I said. A stage play would also be great.

YES! That round with 4 kills pissed me off SO fucking much. I knew those four would die but I wanted them to get individual, meaningful deaths

Oh! Alright then. Yeah, I've totally forgotten a lot of the death order already which is nice since that means I'll still be surprised by a few things the next time I watch this. (lol)

I liked this. The biggest thing going for it is that it had so many characters. I was surprised how quickly I was able to keep track of the characters. Basing a lot of them around stereotypes helped, but it can't have been easy to have that many distinct characters. Having 12 Angry Men take place on an alien spaceship is a pretty interesting concept. I do think some of the votes were a little convenient, and I'd definitely be interested in knowing how the votes went each time.

Julie Benz stood out the most, but I was surprised how many people I recognized. I've seen The College Guy, The Cancer Survivor, and Eric in quite a few things. The Soldier has done soap operas, including Guiding Light, which is the one my family watched.

I liked (using their names on IMDb):
Cancer survivor
Doctor
Soldier
One-armed man
Pretty girl
Little girl
Pregnant girl
Asian girl
Foreign woman
Silent man

I was just about to post in this thread saying that you need to give it a watch since it seems like something you'd like. (lol)

I agree that the stereotype thing actually made it easier to tell the characters apart for the first 20-30 minutes or so.

It's nice that we all liked the Cancer Survivor. I was rooting for her the whole time. Boo at you for not listing the Lesbian and Translator in your favorites though.

I thought both of them should have spoke up more. The Translator got involved more, but the Lesbian mostly just waited for someone to speak to her.
