In a massive, mysterious chamber, fifty strangers awaken to find themselves trapped with no memory of how they got there. Organized in an inward-facing circle and unable to move, they quickly learn that every two minutes, one of them must die... executed by a strange device in the center of the room. At first, the attacks seem random, but soon the strangers realize that they, as a group, have the power to decide who will be the next to be killed. A vote. A chance to control the machine. But how can they choose who deserves to die? And what happens when there's only one person left? Circle is a film about people, how they value one another, and what they do under the worst possible circumstances. A film about what makes us human - who we are, what we believe, and ultimately, the lengths we will go to save ourselves.

I want to know what the Translator was saying to the Hispanic man who didn't speak any English. I really liked him too btw.

I'm pretty sure she was telling him to vote for the guy that was talking, which is why people voted for her.

*Turns out she was giving him instructions for the next EIGHT ROUNDS or so and was being incredibly mean about it too*

"Okay first, go for cancer bitch and then go for that gay ass banker and then that mean ol' dyke. You see the little girl who won't quit crying? She's fourth. Get the two-for-one special with the pregnant whore after that...I'll let you decide the sixth one as long as it ain't me. Vote for me, Ima boot you out the country faster than you can say "arriba"

Oh God, I just ruined her as a character. (lol)

Watched this film two nights ago. I am still not completely sure how I felt about it. XD

For a film with a cast of like... 50... It does a great job creating sympathy, hatred, and development for its characters, most of whom we barely learn jack shit about.

The film forces us as the viewers to make alliances with the characters throughout, as they are ALL pitted against each other, even the ones we deem as likable and decent. They all make the decisions to kill each other, yet the film still forces us to decide WHO is the *ONE* person we want to escape in the film, as it is established early on that whatever is holding them captive will only allow one to leave. The film makes you feel like an asshole for deciding who you'd PREFER to die over another, when most of the characters are truly decent people other than, you know, voting each other off the island, so to speak.

If I have to choose any character I liked the most, it was the one-armed guy. He was one of the few characters who I was deeply rooting for throughout, and

He was my favorite character, with the snarky fluent-in-Spanish chick coming in second. She had sass, and I liked that.

There were also a bunch of characters who were simply there to be hated. The bloated, yet somehow arrogantly handsome, businessman. The cop who proves himself to be racist. The old white guy in the back who tries hard to run everything. The black guy who cries racism pretty much immediately. Most of the characters were pretty grey, but they were the few who were pretty black throughout, so to speak. The one next to "Christina."

That leads me to my ONE main issue with the film. The film at times made it too easy to root for characters to be killed next. Characters are fine until they suddenly show their asses RIGHT AS the killer pod thing was booting up and it was time to vote. It made it too easy for the characters to make their voting decisions. I mean, at the same time... I guess that's pretty realistic. People tend to show their asses at their worst in times of fear, crisis, or craziness.

On that same note, the death order was still pretty shocking.

This is one of those films where really no one is safe, not even the pregnant gal and the little girl, even though the plot revolves around them trying to decide whether or not they're worth saving more than anyone else. It's a question ANY of us would ask, to be quite honest... Whether we're good people or not, in a situation like this... Who knows. All bets may be off.

The ending also pissed me off, but in the most brilliant way possible.

Let's now talk about the little girl's, character. While the one-armed guy was my favorite, she was probably the kindest character. She has her whole life in front of her,

This was a great fucking sci-fi horror movie that leaves you on the edge of your seat throughout. Every two minutes, someone has to die. No matter what they try, someone is going to die... And they all have nearly-equal development, so it's never obvious who will bite it and who won't. That's a pretty fucking cool, yet terrifying, thing they accomplished with this movie.

Grade: A.

I'm really glad you loved this. (goo) I don't know anyone who really dislikes it (yet) and that's surprising for a movie like this. I watched it with my friend Rion last night and he liked it too. He was kind of pissed about the last few minutes but thought it was for the best. I totally forgot about the old lady saying "FUCK YOU" right before

That cracked me up a little.

And I'm still Team Lesbian and Team Cancer Survivor. (lol)

Finally showed it to my mom and she loved it. She's currently pressuring my stepdad to watch it with her sometime this week, lol. Her favorites were the one armed man, the lesbian, the cancer survivor, and the soldier. :P

I wanna lick the nub of that one handsome one-armed guy's missing arm. I'm glad Donna liked him.

I would show this to my mom, but she doesn't handle intense movies as well as yours does. ;)

Yeah, my mom loves Cube and the Saw movies. So I'm not too surprised that she was fond of this.

Finally got to see this tonight. Really well made. Definitely in the vein of Cube, which I quite love. Would love to see a couple of sequels, for sure. I just hated the ending. Not so much that

Still, solid as fuck. Some sad moments, some funny ones too, but I would definitely show this film to my philosophy class if I were to ever become a philosophy teacher. I'd either do a double feature of this movie and Cube OR this movie and the new Purge coming out about election season.

Characters I liked:
The Pregnant Girl
The Little Girl
The Soldier
The One-Armed Man
The Cancer Survivor
Pretty Girl / Christina
The Translator
The Lesbian
The Doctor
Bruce
Beth
The Hispanic Man
The Foreign Woman (the one who talked about her son)
Shaun
The Wife (doesn't hurt that she's played by the wonderful and beautiful Julie Benz)
The Silent Man (toward the end)
The Oldest Man
The Old Woman
The first woman and man that woke up

Characters I hated:
Eric (at the end, any way)
The Atheist
The Bearded Man
The Rich Man (aka The Bank Teller, IMDb just has him listed as such)
The Husband (more so toward the end)
The Asian Kid (was leaning toward on the fence but I probably hate him more than I like him)
The Lawyer
The College Guy
The Tattooed Man (was going to give him on the fence at least, but no dice)

Characters I'm either on the fence about or indifferent to:
The African-American Man
The Deacon
The Teenage Girl
The Cop
Howard (what did Howard know about numbers?!)
The Asian Girl
The Counting Man (I don't remember him, tbh)
Young Man
Everybody else

Yeah, I think I was expecting the aliens to be up to something a little nastier at the end.

I actually like the ending as is. It just pisses me the shit off.

I've talked to so many people who have seen this, and all of them love the one-armed guy, which is awesome because he's probably my favorite character in the entire movie. Not only because I have a severed arm nub fetish, either.

Loljk. That's not true.

I still can't stop thinking of this movie. I really want more horror films like it.

Plus the fact that this movie took ONE room and made a full-length, completely intense film that never lets up and had it take place in ONE room the entire time... That's so cool to me. This film was one of the most intense of the year, if you ask me.

I was talking about this with Jonathan. I kind of wish they had gone a little further with it.

As horrible as it sounds, since they had a pregnant woman and a child... I wonder how the film would've played out of they had had a mentally handicapped person in the group, whether it be severe or mild, someone with autism, Down syndrome, etc. How would the people have dealt with that?

Or also, since they dealt with the lesbian, maybe a trans character. In his script The Cube, Jonathan has a trans female character and she's pretty badass. I would be curious to see a trans person be outed in the circle-type situation.

This was surprisingly good. I like the concept a lot and execution didn't disappoint. Characters were interesting (and hey! Julie Benz!), ditto for their reactions. I also loved watching the different power struggles as people tried to determine how to survive/how to ensure the survival of others.

Favorite character was definitely Eric. Especially after the ending stuff. Did NOT see that coming. And I definitely liked the ending. Again, didn't see it coming but it totally fit and made the movie way more interesting and memorable

Puppy, just because there's no evidence she killed her aunt doesn't make her dating material.

Ooh yay! Glad you enjoyed it<3. I've been wanting to watch it yet again. It might be the first movie I show this dude the next time we hang out.

And I agree about the ending. It was pretty great. Mildly infuriating - but great. It boosted all three of the last characters who were alive too.
