When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.

I'm really sad I won't be seeing this in theaters. :(

Repo - I'm not too surprised you saw things about this when in Paris. After all, it's made most of its money in France.

And I will be buying that the day it comes out.

This. Was. Amazing. Easily the best of 2016, for me. I'll post an actual review later.

Agreed completely. Just finished it and I loved just about everything about it. It's definitely in my top three though it just might end u becoming my number one favorite of the year once I watch it again.

Jared needs to get a Neon Demon set and be the Gigi to my Sarah<3.

Vanessa can be Ruby.
Repo can be Jesse.
Macready can be Dean.
The now-rare trolls we get can be Hank.
Not sure who we can have as Sarno and McCarthor.

Puppy, just because there's no evidence she killed her aunt doesn't make her dating material.

So I've spent the last couple of days trying to think of something I did NOT like about this movie and aside from one scene that, while visually stunning, didn't really push the plot forward for me...I really can't. It's just too damn good. It's certainly a step up from Only God Forgives (which was all style and very little substance) and I'd say it's equal to Drive when it comes to being well made. I just prefer this one (matter of personal preference - I can totally see why some fans of Refn's would prefer Drive).

You can probably tell by the trailer, posters, my avatar and signature, the film's website, and other reviews that the film is EXTREMELY gorgeous and well shot. It makes great use of color but never goes too over-the-top with it (the most bizarre color usage occurs in a couple of model show sequences that feature flashing lights, heavy doses of reds and blues, and strange camera work). Some scenes are bursting with color much like Suspiria, The Lords Of Salem, and others that had a fondness for interesting color usage. Other scenes look completely natural and like something from just a regular film (and it works). Other scenes are almost pure white, almost headache-inducing in a way (also works). Other scenes are drained, faded, and full of plain greys, whites, tans, and blacks. That may sound like a weird combo but it works and almost every scene blends into the next quite well.

Unfortunately, the ONE scene I didn't really care for was one of the most gorgeous. It's a show scene that features mildly disorienting imagery, lights, red, triforce, and the lead character going through a bit of an internal transformation of her own. While I applaud the makers for how well done the scene was, something just didn't sit right with me. Not sure if it was their intention but it felt more like a music video than anything.

The characters were damn near perfect, especially the four main females. Jesse was a very interesting, complex lead. She was never over-acted (in fact, I feel like her actress was almost TOO calm at times - but I won't fault her since it felt natural for the character) and had just enough of a backstory to be intriguing. Her behavior was a bit of a rollercoaster and while her motivations weren't always clear to me, it was always clear to me that they were clear to her - or that she was just insecure and faking it all along which is quite possible given the kind of person she was. (lol) Her transformation wasn't quite as in-your-face and gutwrenching as, say, Natalie Portman in Black Swan and Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler, and it wasn't as batshit insane as Eat's and Starry Eyes' but it causes this film to fit into the same category as those four films - ALMOST. Ruby was an interesting one as well. Well acted, gorgeous, sinister but also compassionate, and I loved just about every scene she was in (yes, even the

scene). I love that it was clear that she was jealous of the other girls but I also loved that the makers weren't super up front with it. Gigi and Sarah were awesome and added a bit more fun to the film than it would've had without them. The two actresses played off of each other wonderfully, had some excellent lines, and threw just enough 'crazy' into the film. Desmond Harrington, Keanu Reeves, and the other men did a good job with what they had (Dean is my fifth favorite character after the four main girls while Keanu's sleazy character is easily my least favorite despite Keanu's good performance).

It's not a bodycount film so don't go in expecting that BUT there are plenty of disturbing moments, some weird imagery, and a dash of harsh violence. It's not incredibly graphic but it gets the job done. The musical score is also the best of the year so far. It's up there with the It Follows score in my opinion (though it's a bit different - don't directly compare them) and I think it's really cool that Sia released a song specifically for this film (and it is a GREAT fucking song!).

I've made up my mind. This one is my favorite of 2016 so far and I can't wait to see it again. Totally hoping the Bluray has some cool features. I'm buying it no matter what though. (love)

8/10 quality, 9.5/10 entertainment.

Worldwide: $3,310,570 (cry) This totally deserved better. This should've had a 3,000 theater release like Drive did.

The release was wide enough to break out but mass audiences just did not care about it all. The buzz of it being booed at Cannes was just online. Amazon studios probably would have lost even more money if they decided to go to more screens.

Rewatched it and found it to be a way more digestible, funny, fun, and fast paced experience than when I saw in the theater.

Stunningly gorgeous. I really should have seen this on the big screen. Elle Fanning is such a great actress. I like her more than her sister, Dakota. Refn is hit or miss, as a director, but this one is a hit for me. And to think, he's actually colorblind. Not as great as Black Swan, but on par with Starry Eyes. Maybe a little bit better than Starry Eyes actually. Anyway, I like it. It's not about body count, as Jon pointed out, it's about atmosphere and the descent into modeling hell. There are moments that made me squeamish, but much less than the movie I watched before this, The Greasy Strangler. How's that for a double-feature? Why am I single again? (grin) (stupid)

Point is, give this movie a chance if you're into more artsy horror flicks

That actually sounds like a wonderful double feature! Total trash vs one of the most gorgeous films of the last couple years. I like clashes like that, lol. Meanwhile, I had a double feature of Yoga Hosers and The Greasy Strangler on Christmas Day. Now THAT is a hot mess.

Anyway, I'm really glad you liked this! I plan on showing it to my friend Sarah soon. (love)
