Well I've also seen a lot of random Carol hatred over the last year or so. But yeah, point still stands. I'm excited for this, still.

It opened in some other countries before the U.S. and made $914,327. That's a good-ish sign. |

Fox is apparently opening this in only 500 theaters and I don't get why. The reviews have been pretty decent for this and it probably would have decent business yet it's like they're burying it off like The Pyramid. |

A rather tepid flick. It relies on all the usual ghost story cliches, jump scares and musical stings without bringing anything new to the table. Worse still, it refuses to allow Callies' character to have a brain. She gives it her all -- Callies is the best thing about the flick -- but the script quite simply lets her down. The decidedly exploitative handling of the material also robs many moments which should have been emotionally powerful of their impact. And Sisto is a complete non-entity as the husband. He's given almost nothing at all to do. Shame. Callies is a good actor. I was never a Lori hater -- in fact I think Callies brought a lot of depth to that character, though obviously there are a lot of folks out there who missed it. She deserves more and better projects. |

Worldwide = $3,136,449 Two thirds of that = other countries. Yeah, this is another that's a total 'came and went' movie. Sadly. I'm still going to see it though unless my theater pulls a Vatican Tapes with it and decides to yank it out before the seven day mark. |

I can't go see it until after this weekend, but I am certainly wanting to see it next week, after I get paid. I hope my theaters keep it until then. Funny that this is a came-and-went movie, since it's been so freaking heavily advertised around here... |

So I really don't get why this wasn't given a better release. It's a hell of a lot better than a lot of the big paranormal type movies that have hit theaters this decade at least. But it's still not an 'upper tier' film of its kind. It's heavily flawed but still very satisfying and like some other recent movies like this, it gave me a warm and fuzzy mid-2000s feel. I guess I can thank the Grudge-like death rattling thing in this for that. ![]() This had a few really suspenseful sequences that had me on edge bigtime. There's a feeling of dread hanging over the entire movie and while there were a few really bland, typical 'scares' in this, most of the jolts were well placed. The fact that the structure is pretty different from a lot of 'basic paranormal movies' is probably what made me feel somewhat uncomfortable and 'nervous' the whole time. I liked that. The people I saw it with didn't though. Aside from me and Robby, who both enjoyed it, the cackling teenagers were all boo'ing and yelping about how terrible it was. Fuck them, I say, go watch Paranormal Activity. ![]() I really liked that it took its time with the whole situation. I'm so used to movies like this speeding through the set up in the first fifteen minutes to get the scares for the last seventy or so but instead, this spent HALF of the movie building and setting everything up. Scenes that could've been chopped out, glossed over, and overly brief were included and went on for a while and I was pretty happy about that. I also really liked that they revealed HOW the son died within the first twenty minutes instead of waiting until the very end like I was half expecting them to. There's a really disturbing scene involving that that got to me. The scene where the lead mother scattered the ashes and talked to the son was surprisingly sad. I wasn't expecting much from that part of the movie but it ended up being one of the strongest parts. That character's breakdown and her pleading to her son's spirit to 'stay for just another minute' was out of place (in a very good way, mind you) and showed that despite what some may think, Sarah Wayne Callies is actually a really good actress. Sorry haters. Overall, this handled the grief aspect quite well and spent a lot more time than I thought it would on that. There are some boo-scares, of course, but there are also some genuinely creepy (or at least gross) moments like the cockroach scene, the bedtime story scene, and the stuff with the dog. There aren't very many deaths in this but we got a couple of decent ones and one scene in particular was surprisingly bloody. I also loved the pond scene that totally made me feel like I was watching a Rose Red spinoff or something. You'll probably see what I mean when you see it. Jeremy Sisto wasn't all that great here but I liked his character a lot. I just wish that he and the daughter in the family had as much to do as the mother and that the two of them had been as interesting as the mother and Piki, the nanny. Piki was a really good character and a lot more developed than I thought she'd be. Her actress' performance was also one of the stronger ones and her whole storyline had me thinking that the film would end with Spoiler: click to toggle Needless to say, the ending was a bit unexpected. It was kind of clichéd in the end but it was still well done. I do wish that my original expectations for the ending had been right since that might have been better.Still, it's a good movie. Not the best of the year, already far from being the worst. The locations are really gorgeous btw. I want more new Horror movies taking place in India<3. 6.5/10 quality, 7/10 entertainment |

Worldwide: $8,069,108 That's okay-ish considering the fact that it didn't get as big of a release as I thought it would. It's still making money in a couple countries but as far as I know, it's been out of American theaters since the end of March. |

Netflix does not respect my Jeremy Sisto crush. They keep refusing to send this to me even though they claim it's a short wait. Then, they had the audacity to tell me that my subscription price is going up by a dollar. |

TWD's got some really horrible fans.... But that said, they kept Shane alive because the creator is on record for thinking he killed the character too soon in the comics (and while he does have a vocal fanbase... he's not actually that popular as far as I can tell. They're just vocal and mostly crazy as fuck) You probably are right about Lori, but considering she was the showrunner's personal mouthpiece for shouting out misogyny, I'm not complaining that we got less of her. And Maggie is also a very popular female character as early as S2, ditto for Beth. Tara seems well liked too (the latter two also gain prominence from most their material coming in 4+/being introed in 4+, where the showrunner was switched to a guy who isn't a raging misogynist ) Carol's popularity also skyrocketed with those seasons. I think you'd be laughed off almost any TWD forum if she wasn't in your top 5. ----- Never heard of this, though it sounds generic. I like Sisto and am neutral to Callies though (I can't blame her for her shit writing) Edited by Repo, Jul 25 2016, 04:07 AM.
