Horror Quote Of The Moment

Welcome to Under The Morgue.

We have sections for each decade of film, from the 1910s onward, as well as sections for 10+ major franchises, close to 50 'smaller' franchises (containing five entries or less), creative writing, independent filmmaking, photography, music, Non-Horror films and TV shows, forum games, and boredom busters, and to top it all off there's an IM shoutbox at the bottom of the page for random chat. From the tame and 'kid sister friendly' to the psychological and mindbending to cheesy splatter flicks to hardcore torture-oriented horror, there's something here for everyone, so why not dive in?

Battle Royale for me as well but if that doesn't count (though it sorta counts for me), I have to go with either Inside, Martyrs, or A Serbian Film.

To date mine is Dario Argento's masterpiece Suspiria. Pretty basic plot and storyline but presented with brilliant imagery, ever increasing tension, an amazing score by Goblin and brutal deaths that somehow still manage to look beautiful. I did say to date but Suspiria will be hard to top for me.

Switchblade Romance aka Haute Tension.
Martyrs
Ringu

As I am from the UK I don't think Eden Lake qualifies for me as a foreign horror.

I guess you could say The Descent is foreign for us Americans, otherwise I would say Martyrs or Inside. The French have made some great horror!

Definitely, also i would include ils (Them) very creepy French horror.

The descent is a great horror, it came out the same time as The Cave i was quite excited for both then i realised The Cave was a PG13 which in the UK is a 12 rating and is also shit.

I almost put Them on the list. Them is probably my favorite low gore horror film.

The Cave dies because of its ridiculous lighting alone. Never has a cave been so bright.

Haha, yes! I liked a couple of the characters though. The main problems with it were some of the dialogue, some of the effects and the fact that the PG-13 rating caused EVERYTHING to be watered down. With some dialogue tweaks, better CGI and gore, it would've been pretty great, I think.

But yeah, The Descent kicks its ass.

exactly, when you watch the Descent it really is so grim and dark, and the suspense is killer.

Having a place feel real and solid is just as important as making the monsters feel real. Alien is another movie where the location does a lot of the work. You feel like you are in that spaceship. Or if you want to keep it on topic, the French movies Them and to a lesser extent Inside. You feel like you are there with the characters because of the strong location.
