Indeed, what did you think of the remake? |

I loved it! I definitely prefer the original, but I thought the filmmakers did a really good job with the remake. It's near-perfect too, IMO, if it weren't for some CGI that made me wince a little bit (then again, they did get rid of the "cat attack" scene, which was the only part of the original that I thought was less than perfect). A lot of my love for the remake had to do with Chloe Moretz (sp?), I'm sure. She's such a wonderful young actress. And the guy who played her "father" (can't think of his name right now no matter how hard I try, but he was one of the guys pulling the strings in CABIN IN THE WOODS) always brings his A game to whatever project he's in as well. But, yeah, anyway . . . sorry for getting so long-winded. Short answer: I think the original is superior, but I love the remake too. ![]() J.N. |

Almost everything I watch is foreign to me. But Im going to play along. Let the Right One In. Not just my favourite foreign film, but also one of my favourites in general. Edited by Dutchie, Nov 18 2014, 01:23 PM.

my apologies if this topic has already been created, i have had a search through but couldn't find anything at the moment i have been watching pretty much exclusively american/english horrors, and would like to branch out so, if anyone would like to reccommend any of the most 'technically brilliant' foreign horrors they have seen, and by this i mean that it does not neccessarily have to be your favourite, only one you thought to be very good, for myself and any other interested forum members it would be very much appreciated, thank you! |

We do have a thread for this, but it hasn't been bumped up in a while. I am pretty sure that it has been a really long time, so it could definitely use it. I'll hunt it down, so everyone feel free to post while I look for it to merge it. |

There are so, so many. Here's a (very) short list: Ringu (1998) Audition (1999) The Host (2006) Nattevagten (aka Nightwatch, 1994) Day of the Beast (aka Il Dia de la Bestia, 1995) The Devil's Backbone (2001) Mute Witness (1994) The Untold Story (1993) Let the Right One In (2008) Hausu (1977) And rather than list their films individually, check out movies by these filmmakers: Dario Argento Lucio Fulci Michele Soavi Mario Bava Lamberto Bava Takashi Miike This should be plenty to get you started. ![]() |

It's no problem at all. I'm actually glad. I think everyone was a bit overwhelmed with options in the old thread, so being able to focus on thinking of recommendations for you might make it easier to know where to start. Where do you usually get movies? |

You'll get no shame from me. Foreign films can be very expensive. Netflix has some good stuff. Let the Right One In Dead Snow and the sequel: These are very fun zombie comedies. TrollHunter: This is one that doesn't get talked about as much as it should. The trolls are way cooler than they sound. Killers: I enjoyed it a lot, but it is also a bit long. It's one of those ones to save for when you're in the right mood. Snowpiercer: It's more on the border of the genre, but I loved it. Even though it has familiar American stars, it was also made in Korea. The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears: Neo-giallo. It's very light on plot, but the visuals are amazing. Let Us Prey: I was on the fence about including this, but it isn't like there are a lot of Irish horror films. I know they have Battle Royale 2, but I'm not so sure about the original. I know it was on there are one point. |
