The sun drenched days of summer turn dark and ominous for hitchhiking duo Jack and Véronique when they become inexplicably entangled with a mysterious married couple and a local road kill collector in rural France.

I wanted to like this more than I did BUT it's still really good. I think maybe I just got my hopes up too high. I was expecting it to be one of the very best of the year but it's definitely not. The performances are pretty much perfect though from Barbara Crampton as a rather bizarre, timid wife (think of her as Aubrey from You're Next mixed with Daniella from the Haunted Ground video game or something (lol) ) to Josephine De La Baume as a rather tormented hitchhiker with a pretty sad childhood. I loved all four of the major characters<3. The main guy was also ridiculously attractive. The fifth major character wasn't as big of a character as the other four but he was part of one of the best scenes of the film and had some pretty great lines. He was definitely memorable so I can't complain.

This was nowhere near as violent or action packed as I thought it'd be. In fact, it's almost entirely driven by dialogue, mood, and unsettling quiet. That's not a problem but I'm thinking that for once, I shouldn't have went into a movie without seeing a trailer. I don't always watch trailers, especially if I fear that they'll give away too much, but for this, maybe the trailer would've helped me 'prepare' for what kind of film it was. I was expecting a crazy road film but instead got a well thought out Psychological Horror/Drama with a pretty interesting (and sad in a way) twist and next to no violence. (lol)

This was pretty gorgeous, very well shot, and I loved the vehicles and the main location. I wanted more locations though since I love areas like the ones featured in this. The story didn't really come together at all until the third act. Some things felt awfully random before then and even parts of the climax had me like "what is going on and why is this happening? (wary) " I was never annoyed or taken out of it but it wasn't always as coherent as it should've been. But perhaps that was the point. The big twist at the end did surprise me (but it didn't surprise Robby who is starting to become too good for his own good when it comes to calling twists, haha) and most things ended up making sense by the time it was over.

I already want to have a double feature of this and Rabid Dogs (2016). I wanted Barbara Crampton to speak French more often in this. (un)

7/10 quality, 6.5/10 entertainment.

He had large roles in teen movies like Cruel Intentions, not so strange

As far as I can tell, and starring tends to mean you won't have a huge role either. Maybe not AS small as special appearance by, but

Puppy, just because there's no evidence she killed her aunt doesn't make her dating material.

Well Barbara had a really large role in this. She had at least 20-25 minutes of screentime which is a pretty big chunk of time (most secondary characters don't have nearly as much screentime).
