![]() Carrie is a religious fundamentalist. But her mother decided to come-out-of-the-closet and marry another woman, which they have a daughter together with. Now, she is forced to move into a new house with people she cannot accept. The story takes place over the first two days at the strange house, as Carrie's new parents leave for a business trip and she must now take care of her step sister. As creepy occurrences lead to full blown terror, Carrie must learn to overcome her own fears and believes to save her little sister. Edited by Vanessa, Mar 1 2016, 02:14 AM.

Here's the trailer. I'm sort of mixed on whether or not I want to see this, but I haven't seen Langenkamp in a movie for a long time. Even though I'm sure she's been in quite a few small films since Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Terrible looking poster, btw. Hackneyed to the core. |

The poster becomes even worse after you watch the movie. That's what my spoilered post was about. |

I didn't much care for this. Everything needed thought through more. The characterization was weak, and that was supposed to be the focus of the movie. The haunting was dull, and it relied on a lot meh effects. The twist had no effect on me. The biggest thing that I could not get over with this movie is that it gave no clear explanation for a lot of the family dynamics. Until I reread the summary, I had no idea that the daughter was supposed to be born after the couple got together. I thought they each had a daughter. They also gave conflicting reasons for Carrie staying with her mother and how long the arrangement would be. The movie seemed to switch the dynamics up based on what was convenient at the moment. They also do stuff just to maintain the twist. Spoiler: click to toggle

Once again, I agree with Vanessa for the most part. Everyone did such a good job in this movie that I have a feeling I would've LOVED the movie if the characters had been more realistic and fascinating, lol. As it is, I had characters that I liked and characters that I didn't care for but no one blew me away or really got a strong reaction from me (but it was obvious that pretty much everyone was doing the best they could with the material they were given). I REALLLLLLY like that this movie was structured differently than usual when it came to religious beliefs. It's mostly neutral when it comes to God and religion but it was still really refreshing that the main character who is a 'fish out of water' when it comes to her family and their beliefs was a Christian surrounded by people who don't believe in God. Usually it's the other way around (Atheist moves in with a Christian family and is uncomfortable). That said, as nice as it was seeing a reversal like that, I feel like this was definitely the WRONG movie to take that approach with. It doesn't exactly look too pleasant at a glance (religious girl moves in with her atheist family including her lesbian mom and her partner) and the film itself doesn't do too much to make it so, lol. I think I would've appreciated that aspect if this film had focused on a religious girl moving in with her straight dad and his new wife or something. I kind of get what the makers were aiming for but I can see how people might get the wrong idea and see this as being totally homophobic in a way. There were a couple of good jumpscares but none actually jolted me. The house was pretty. I loved seeing Lew and Heather in the same film. I didn't like the little sister at all. The final twist was really nice but the film as a whole ended WAY too abruptly for my liking. Since it was a mostly slow paced (not necessarily in a bad way) film, it was kind of awkward that it just...ended like that. ![]() I don't see myself watching it again but I'm glad I saw it once. *shrug* 5.5/10 quality, 6/10 entertainment. |

It was so sloppy that I don't know that it could have been saved by changing the mothers to a straight couple. The family backstory seemed to change between scenes. |
