Kiefer Sutherland is going to be in it. The cast is really good. |

Flatliners is one of those movies where there are a lot of different directions that they could go in with a remake. I think I'm looking forward to this so far. |

Hmm. Color me intrigued. I wonder if they should have anybody else from the original cast show up. Oliver Platt, maybe. His character was the only one to never have an out-of-body experience through flatlining, if I remember correctly. |

This was dated for August next year and I think it's a a sequel. Even though I didn't really like the first all that much, I did like The Lazarus Effect (sue me!) and think this has the potential to be even better with the talent involved. |

I hopefully added a poster. I think it's really cool. Doing something so colorful helps it stand out. |

So I have been liking the look of the film so far. Yes it looks very polished and has some generic standard scares but the original looked like a perfume commercial so that doesnt bother me. I am expecting it to fail at the box expectations mainly because it doesn't seem to be grabbing audiences the way IT has nor does it have the prestige and shock value like Mother! |

I love the score in the trailer. The hushed woman breathing, or whatever. |

Spoiler: click to toggle This version feels underdeveloped. Only scratches the surface. The original kind of was that way, but it worked better, IMO. The cast was good. I think I like Diego Luna's character the best. He's essentially Kevin Bacon and Oliver Platt's characters put together. Spoiler: click to toggle Still a decent movie. I just hate that the movie is PG-13, because that allowed obnoxious teens to see it when my mother and I did today. All the same, my mother loved the movie. Despite those distractions. The worst part was when the song "If You're Happy and You Know It" plays because the three boys in front of us and the girls behind us clapped their hands and stomped their feet when those parts came up. Geez.

I put this in the 2010 and Remake sections, since it doesn't seem to fit neatly into either section. I'm glad Zeta lets us do that, because I've been needing to a lot lately. |

This was...surprisingly good. It's definitely not a typical remake (it features a returning actor/characrer from the original) but not a typical sequel either (things play out differently but the overall structure is the same). The characters here are just as fleshed out, well developed, likable, and interesting as the characters in the original and the performances are just as good, if not better (though the dialogue is about equal, if a little worse). I appreciated that they went further with the actual medical aspects. Unlike some aspects of the first, this felt like a medical school and the characters were more convincing as actual would-be doctors. It's also great that two of them had backstories/"sins" closely relating to the field of medicine and their own mistakes involving their education and conduct. The scares are also mych stronger. We get a lot of cheap boo scares, sure, but there's some genuinely creepy moments (with the part that got under my skin the most being a quick, ghostly shot that is played out in total silence and is rather easy to miss if you blink or look away at that moment). The stakes are also raised bigtime compared to the first. The past coming back to haunt these people is much more furious and unforgiving this time around and unlike the first, there's a MUCH bigger physical threat this time around as opposed to the 95% psychological/5% physical aspects of the first film. I thought that was a welcome change though it didn't take away from the character development and emotional aspects of the first. This isn't QUITE as touching as the first was in some scenes but it definitely hits the mark when it comes to the themes shared by both films. One scene that really served as a game changer totally shocked me and really scored the film some points because I was expecting thw fates of the characters to be totally predictable but...then it yanked that rug out from under me. I really don't get why this is randomly so poorly received. It's not an AMAZING film but it's a worthy follow up to the original. It's better in some ways, worse in some ways, and definitely worth seeing at least once. <3 |
