![]() New York police are bemused by a spate of reports of a giant flying lizard that has been spotted around the rooftops of New York, which they assume to be bogus until the lizard starts to eat people. An out-of-work, ex-con piano player is the only person who knows the location of the monster's nest and is determined to turn the knowledge to his advantage, but will his gamble pay off or will he end up as lizard food? |

This was a fun flick, but it's been forever since I last saw it. It's nothing outstanding, but it is entertaining, and features a memorable method performance by Michael Moriarty. Also on-hand are David Carradine, Richard Roundtree, Candy Clark. As is the case with most Larry Cohen projects, it's a notch or two above your usual exploitation/b-flick.

The music in this was really good. The first kill came out of nowhere and definitely had me excited for the rest of this. Within five minutes we got a decapitation and the aftermath of a skinning with close to a dozen other deaths and attacks following in the next forty minutes alone. Unfortunately, there aren't as many deaths/attacks in the second half as there are in the first and some of what we DO get in the second half ended up being incredibly cheesy. "I've almost been afraid of everything but I've never been afraid of heights!" The blood landing on people in the streets after the third kill was a nice touch. Michael Moriarty was AWESOME in this! There were a few really good storylines in this that all blended together quite nicely. "EAT 'EM!" cracked me up. "If anyone ate that sandwich, I'll shove the thermos up your asses one by one!" I was also SO happy to see David Carradine and Richard Roundtree in this. I love them both. It's weird that my favorite scene in this had nothing to do with the monster and deaths - it was when Quinn was making all of his demands. The mime was cute. I was surprised to see Spoiler: click to toggle die when he did. They went an incredibly cheesy route with the last ten minutes or so and I was really disappointed with the finale. But I liked the first 80 minutes so much that I didn't mind the poor ending. I definitely recommend this."Stick it up your...brain. Your small little brain!" 6/10 quality, 7.5/10 entertainment. |
