![]() When the Imagine Network commissioned a documentary on mermaids, to be filmed from the cruise ship Atargatis, they expected what they had always received before: an assortment of eyewitness reports that proved nothing, some footage that proved even less, and the kind of ratings that only came from peddling imaginary creatures to the masses. They didn't expect actual mermaids. They certainly didn't expect those mermaids to have teeth. This is the story of the Atargatis, lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a maritime tragedy. Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the bathypelagic zone in the Mariana Trench…and the depths are very good at keeping secrets. |

I really liked this, but I wish it had spent more on the carnage at the end. Most of the deaths went by really rapidly with only a sentence or two each. The cast is massive, but the deaths that were described in detail left me wanting more. |

I misread "Atargatis" as "Atlantis" BOTH times it appeared in the description and I have no doubt that I'd make the same mistake while reading the actual novel. And the title immediately had that song blaring in my head. But it sounds pretty awesome, even if some of the kills are underwhelming, so I might order it next time I'm on a book-buying spree (after I get paid again or after I finish my current two books and Fade To Black, whichever comes first). |

It had some good kills, but with a cast of like 30+ named characters, I was hoping for a really over-the-top meanstreak. I think it'll be one of those that being forewarned is the only thing necessary to prevent any disappointment. I just got my hopes up too high. |

Please tell me that 25 of those 30+ characters don't get 'offpage' deaths with only their bodies shown later.

They mostly just don't go into the deaths with any detail. There's one really detailed one and a few that are specific enough to count as a scene. Most of them just get a sentence. |
