As the world teeters on the brink of World War II, 10 strangers are invited to isolated Soldier Island. Among them are young secretary Vera Claythorne (Maeve Dermody, Serangoon Road), soldier Philip Lombard (Aidan Turner, Poldark), General John MacArther (Sam Neill, Jurassic Park), spinster Emily Brent (Miranda Richardson, Parade’s End), and Judge Lawrence Wargrave (Charles Dance, Game of Thrones). With seemingly nothing in common, the guests wonder who their mysterious host may be. But the ominous reason for their visit soon becomes clear…and by the end of the night, the first of them is dead.

If you're deciding how to prioritize things before the 2015 nominations are over, this didn't air in the US until 2016.

I wish Lifetime was better at including release dates in their advertisements, because I would have watched this if I knew it was on.

It's a miniseries, and it's three hours long.

How did we miss this? I liked the commercials during the Charles Manson movie.

It was on last month. I don't know. None of the commercials we saw had a date. I remember trying to look it up, but they must not have had it on their website then.

Apparently, the US and UK versions are pretty different.

Ooh<3. I'll definitely be watching both versions. Not sure when though.

That's pretty interesting that there are two versions, though! I wonder what's so different about then, particularly if they follow Christie's original novel.

It'd be nice if one was 100% faithful to the novel while the other does something completely different with the third act.

That would be pretty cool! As long as the totally different one is still very good. ;)

Pretty much everything before this completely changed the third act so the story had a more traditional "Hollywood" ending (except the Russian one, which apparently tried to be darker and edgier and threw in things like rape for the sake of it). I mean, it was created by Christie for the play adaptation, but there's a reason I kinda loathe every version besides this one.

Anyways, minus some really dumb changes (I didn't like their tweaks to make the murders more flashy and remove the subtleties/some of the depth related to them, and then Emily Brent's sexuality was.... Baffling considering her book self, and then changing one of the kills to.... 💀). It also changes the climax a bit, but it plays out similarly and in this case it works. Acting is really good across the board, and most the writing is solid.

I'd MUCH, MUCH more strongly recommend reading the book first. But otherwise? Watch this version. Though I don't know if I watched U.S. or UK, but I'd guess it's true UK version

Puppy, just because there's no evidence she killed her aunt doesn't make her dating material.
