An Abattoir is a slaughterhouse. And houses where slaughters happened is just the selling point one diabolical homebuyer is interested in.

His name is Crone (Dayton Callie), and he’s building the ultimate haunted house. Hunting the real estate section for hardship listings where murders, suicides, and other various tragedies took place, Crone gets killer deals and then does some rather unusual remodeling: He rips the crime scene out.

So if an occupant slits her wrists in the tub, the bathroom is removed. If a home invader kicks in the door and murders a family in the foyer, then the entryway is excised. If a baby is suffocated in his nursery, the room is deleted. Where those chambers wind up is a mystery. After several newly-purchased houses across the country are left in pieces, Julia, a puzzled real estate reporter, tries to figure out just what is going on… and why.

Julia (Lowndes) soon teams up with Grady (Anderson), and the two find themselves on the trail of the enigmatic bargain hunter, which leads them to a strange small town that’s full of secrets and surrounded by the dark forest where Crone’s nightmare home is being built, brick by blood-soaked brick.

I like the plot but dislike most of Darren Lynn Bousman's stuff. Also can't find any reviews or news since it premiered or will premiere at the LA Film Festival this week.

This sounds odd. The plot description could use a rewrite since it sort of lost me at one point and I had to reread it. The poster also makes my eyes feel funny.

Still, it doesn't seem BAD and I like most of Darren Lynn Bousman's films so I'll definitely check it out.

I'm hoping that both the plot and the poster will get revised when it gets closer to the movie being released. It does sound interesting.

Here's another poster that is easier on the eyes I guess.

Those posters are wonderful (well, the first and last. Not the middle one)

That said, anything by the creators of TDI is massively offputting. Worst "ending" of all time

Puppy, just because there's no evidence she killed her aunt doesn't make her dating material.

It's by Darren Lynn Bousman who did The Devils Carnival, not The Devil Inside.

Anyway he is literally the reason I'm hesitant to really get excited for this. I love the plot but don't think he has it on him to fully deliver it despite his care for the film. Like he's clearly passionate about this film, he's been planning an expansive universe out of it for like years through graphic novels and stuff.

I forgot Lin Shaye and Jessica Lowndes were in this! Not too surprised though.

Who worked on The Devil Inside that worked on this? Not the writer or director (just checked just to be sure).

No one who did the The Devil Inside had any part of this.

I don't know that can say that I liked it, but I am pretty impressed with how many things this movie tried to do. Even though it has quite a few different flaws, I think the effects are the big thing that are keeping me from really liking it. I think they picked the wrong studio. Nothing about the style felt right, unless they had decided to take the movie in more of a fantasy rather than horror direction. I think they would have been a lot better off if they had just had actors do those scenes.

It is ridiculously ambitious. The movie would have been better if they had removed quite a few things that they had attempted, but I don't think it would have been as charming. I kind of liked that they had Joe Anderson doing a weird Humphrey Bogart impression for the entire movie. Even though it seems to have confused the majority of imdb, I also liked the worldbuilding they did. If the style had been just a little bit different and there had been less murder, it would have been a fantasy film.
