"From the director of Excision..." ...sold. I've also heard mixed-to-positive things about Suburban Gothic. This has my interest. |

I never saw of Suburban Gothic (which I am sure is a perfectly fine movie) but I am willing to see this when I get the chance. |

Release bump It showed up on Amazon Thursday. I don't think that there was much of an advanced warning. |

This is now one of my favorites of the year. The performances were fantastic and I can't think of anyone else in Fionnula Flanagan's role. I've loved her ever since I saw her in Lost and I was so happy to see her in something like this. The ending was a huge shock in a way that reminded me of Excision (which makes sense) but there's fewer bizarre moments spread throughout the film so it was even more jawdropping. There's a lot of awkward sexuality in this and I really appreciated how dysfunctional the family was and how it was all plausible (minus one character's extreme behaviors). The humor landed perfectly. The sometimes slow pacing didn't bother me. I do wish we'd seen more of the two leads before they went to the grandma's house since their home life was pretty amusing and felt just exaggerated enough to be totally amusing without being as depressing as it would be in real life. This made me appreciate Angela Trimbur as an actress and the main guy is really hot and really great at delivering lines dripping with sarcasm. I felt bad for the sister. And her voice reminded me of Luna Lovegood's at times which made her character more interesting for some reason. I liked seeing Ezra Buzzington in this too. He's a really cool guy in real life. I'll have to watch Suburban Gothic and rewatch Excision before I can decide which of the three I like the most but going by what I've heard, I'm pretty sure it'll be a toss up between this and Excision. I'm really glad I went into this mostly blind. |

I'm watching this now and its rather fascinating and funny in a dark and messed up kind of way. Really strange so far but its also exactly what I thought it'd be after Excision. Also I swear Adrian Grenier has aged like crazy since I last saw him in something. Angela Trimbur looks great though. Way better as a brunette. |

If I watch this without making gifs am I going to regret it? The director's other works makes me think I will, but the the stills make me think I won't. |

If you can stand movies with horrible and unlikeable characters saying and doing vile things to each other for 90 minutes I say yes? I enjoyed it but still not something I would say everyone should go watch.

I didn't regret not making gifs. It isn't as visually interesting as I would normally expect from the director. I did not dislike it, but there was one big thing that kept me from really being sold on it. I loved the cast. The cast has a lot of actors and actresses that I look forward to seeing in films. I liked Adrian Grenier's acting more in this than I have in years. The big problem that I had is that the two halves of the movie aren't integrated very well. I needed to see the lead character undergo more of a gradual change instead of becoming a different person in one day. It kept me from really investing in the movie, even though I thought it was pretty interesting and tense. |

This isn't so much horror as it is a great fucked-up drama that borrows a little bit from Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie. I like this. I like this a lot. I especially love Angela Trimbur and Fionnula Flanagan. They were powerhouses. I loved the woman who played Pearl as well, and Adrian Grenier was actually good in this. It seems drawn out at times, but it adds to the tension. Greatly so. More Angela Trimbur please.
