Twelve years after discovering her mother’s suicide, 17-year-old Clare Shannon (Joey King) is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father Jonathan (Ryan Phillippe) and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes. While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. Clare realizes that she must get rid of the box, but finds herself unable and unwilling to part with her new-and-improved life – leading her down a dark and dangerous path

July 14th

I hope that Sherilyn Fenn has a bigger role in this.

The trailers made this movie look like a poor man's Death Note, and we're already getting that on Netflix. The reviews merely confirmed my suspicions.

I honestly dont get how you can see that comparison. If its bad (which it apparently is) its being halied as enjoyable trash that harkens back to stuff like The Craft and Wishmaster than Death Note.

The unrated version is going to be 11 minutes longer. It isn't all gore, but I'm happy about it after seeing The Bye Bye Man, which seemed like it should have had a ton of stuff but had pretty much nothing.

Wait, the unrated Bye Bye Man still felt tame? That makes me sad.

So I finally saw it a $3 theater and enjoyed it for the schlocky teeny bopper version of Final Destination that it is. I thought Joey King was actually real solid as the lead despite making some of the least likeable decisions that a horror female lead can make in a film ever. It looks slick and clean, has enough goofy and campy kills that make it fun enough to watch but also has some of the worst and cringe worthy lines I've heard in a studio horror film in a while.

I liked it. Lasser pretty much hit the nail on the head, it's a poor man's Final Destination. I was surprised how good the deaths were despite the PG-13 rating.

I wonder why Jerry O'Connell agreed to be in this for a total of a minute and a half? I don't think he's THAT D-List yet and hurting for money, is he?

This is one of the better teen horror films that have come out in the last few years. I liked how they cast it. The lead character was unlikable, which I think the plot needed. I was worried that they would hold back on that and try to pretend that she was still a likable character as the plot went on. The actress that played her was great, though. The cast was packed with recognizable people that I love from other stuff to balance out having an unlikable lead. They even went as far as to have Barb, Ki Hong Lee, and Ryan Phillippe as the hot dad.

Everything was competently done, which is enough to put it ahead of similar films that have been released in the last few years. There were still editing issues, but they weren't that noticeable.

^ Glad I'm not the only one who really liked it. <3

Final Worldwide Total: $22,779,327

This is another victim of "worst movie ever made" syndrome among horror fans.
