Based on the shocking, true events of March 13th, 1997, when several mysterious lights appeared over Phoenix, Arizona. This unprecedented and inexplicable phenomenon became known as “The Phoenix Lights”, and remains the most famous and widely viewed UFO sighting in history.

Phoenix Forgotten tells the story of three teens who went into the desert shortly after the incident, hoping to document the strange events occurring in their town. They disappeared that night, and were never seen again. Now, on the twentieth anniversary of their disappearance, unseen footage has finally been discovered, chronicling the final hours of their fateful expedition. For the first time ever, the truth will be revealed...

For a Blair Witch Project type knockoff, this was pretty damn good. It's rare for a film to pull off the documentary aspect as well as this did (though Lake Mungo did it better). The last half hour was really intense. FAR from the best of the year but I liked it more than I thought I would. Nothing groundbreaking but it was enjoyable and just the right length. I've seen people complain about the 81 minute runtime but the slow pace would've been a bit much of it had been longer.

I really enjoyed this film too. Never seen Lake Mungo, but this did remind me of The Last Broadcast, though without that film's most glaring problems. I actually thought the documentary portions were the best parts of the film, though that's not to say that the third act wasn't a pretty good slice of found-footage fun. It's nothing new or original, but I still had a good time watching it.

My full review is here.
