22 people killed and 59 injured in suicide bombing at Manchester Arena on Monday

The UK terror threat level has been raised to its highest level of "critical", meaning further attacks may be imminent, Theresa May has said.

The move came after investigators were unable to rule out whether Manchester bombing suspect Salman Abedi acted alone, the prime minister said.

Military personnel will now be deployed to protect key sites.

Twenty-two people were killed and 59 injured when a suicide bomber attacked Manchester Arena on Monday evening.

The prime minister also confirmed the government had triggered "Operation Temperer", a long-standing emergency plan to put soldiers into key public locations to support armed police in protecting the public.

Military personnel may also be seen at other events over the coming weeks, such as concerts, Mrs May said, and would work under the command of police officers.

The prime minister said she did not want the public to feel "unduly alarmed" but said it was a "proportionate and sensible response".

She said the government would take "every measure available to us" to help the police protect the public.

"The spirit of Manchester and the spirit of Britain is far mightier than the sick plots of depraved terrorists.

"That is why the terrorists will never win and we will prevail," she said.

The highest level, which is decided by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre - a group of experts from the police, government departments and agencies - has only been reached twice before.

Met Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, who is the national counter-terrorism policing lead, said the investigation was "fast-moving and making good progress".

"However, a critical line of inquiry is whether the dead terrorist was acting alone or part of a group," he said.

"We still have critical lines of inquiry they're chasing down which has led to a level of uncertainty."

This is awful. There's posts all over Facebook and Twitter about people still missing from the concert.

I read that even more people might have died if Arianna Grande hadn't done an encore.

Did you see the interview with the homeless man that had been sleeping in front of the arena? I can't even imagine.

The number of people claiming that they know someone that's missing and are lying about is really disturbing.

^^^ Travesty can bring out the best in humanity, but sadly it can also bring out the worst. If there's attention to be had, rest assured some fuck-face is going to jockey for it. Not to mention it brings out the assholes who like cracking jokes about others' misfortune. To wit:

I saw a comment on an article about this where someone said "I heard the concert was the bomb," and my testosterone spiked. It's been a long time since I've wanted to intentionally hurt someone, but all I could think about in that moment was putting that motherfucker's teeth down their throat. You don't joke about innocent children dying, period, let alone dying at the hands of a shit-stain pussy terrorist. You just don't.

Attacks like this also raise the issue of security at concerts and venues and how it can be improved so stuff like this doesn't happen in the future. They have security and regulations regarding backpacks and bags but even then it isn't enough.

Oh Lon, you should see some of the shit I've been seeing.

People are literally blaming Ariana Grande herself (and her "anti-American libtard views") for this. They're also mocking the dead children. People are also making it a political thing, using the deaths of children and teens to further their right wing agendas ("no open borders! no raghead muslims!" to quote them). They're saying that Ariana should be put to death or that, at the very least, she should apologize for supporting anyone who isn't Christian. People are also saying things such as "maybe if they kill a few hundred more, the liberals will wake up" and "we should just let them keep going since, between this and Pulse, it's mostly libtard scum getting wiped out."

I'm so furious.

Actual quote from a 50-something year old mother (I'm assuming she was a mother since her pictures on Facebook featured lots of kids and graduation ceremonies and...yeah. I stalked the cunt for a few minutes, lol): "That's what these kids get for supporting the liberal agenda."

"That's what these kids..."

"These kids."

"KIDS"

Fucking kids. People are literally CHEERING ABOUT THE DEATHS OF CHILDREN. How is that ANY different from what terrorists do? Seriously...how?

America's no better than any other country. That's pretty damn obvious.

I think the main issue, and I could be wrong, is that the venue was close to a train station and there's not too much to be done about that since that'd require them messing with the train schedule, boarding, all of that. The location of the venue was simply an easy opening for this piece of shit. Sadly, this was something that could've only been prevented YEARS ago when they were forming regulations, deciding when to stop and check people, and where such things would be located. But maybe now they'll wake up.

Borders don't need to be stricter because, statistically speaking, most attacks (especially shootings) tend to be carried out by "born n' bred" people and not immigrants of any kind. Security in clubs, train stations, bus stations, schools, and concert venues needs to be improved though. It sucks that our time and resources have to go to increasing security measures but it's money well spent as far as I'm concerned and I'd be cool with my taxes going to that even if it prevents just one of these scumbags from carrying out an attack of any kind (I know my money would only apply to the U.S. but I'm sure most people in other countries would feel the same). Security measures in lots of places need a boost the same way as airports/planes.

I had to stop reading after that comment I mentioned, but I completely believe there have been much worse, such as the ones you mentioned. It hurts my soul knowing that such pettiness, callousness and heartlessness exists among the human race, that people would use the deaths of children as a punchline or to further their own agendas.

We're supposed to be better than this.

I feel bad about how much crap Ariana Grande is getting from liberal people, too. Let's see, she should have stayed in the country after the attack (because that wouldn't have been one more thing straining resources), she needed to give more statements/cancel tours/not cancel tours/talk about politics, and she licked a doughnut years ago. I honestly think from these people that it's laziness. They want to say something to get attention and seem knowledgeable without actually knowing something about anything.

What's annoying about the Ariana situation is the fact that people don't seem to grasp the fact that she isn't exactly ALLOWED to participate in an ongoing investigation of a large scale terrorist attack/mass casualty event. (wary) I mean, there's only so much she can do anyway. She didn't see it happen (she had already left the stage, I'm pretty sure). Plus, I've heard that she's offered to pay for the funerals of some (perhaps all) of the victims. That's more than enough for a 23 year old to do about this imo.
