I'd just gotten word that Tobe Hooper, director of such well known films as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and its 1986 batshit insane sequel, Poltergeist and Lifeforce, had just passed away at the age of 74, according to the L.A. County Coroner.

I'm honestly stunned by this, anybody else? (cry)

First Romero, now Hooper. I hate this year.

RIP, Tobe. Thank you for one of the most viscerally scary horror film experiences in the annals of modern cinema.

This is a sad, sad, sad year for horror. Among other things. I am truly downhearted right now.

RIP Mr. Hooper (leatherface) :'(

You made one hell of an impact.

Gah. :( This is really rough. I was actually just wondering what he's been doing and what his thoughts were on the new Texas Chainsaw movie.

It's weird, 'cause at this year's 24 hour horror marathon I'm going to here in Columbus they already planned on showing The Funhouse before news of this. Especially in a festival where we're commemorating Romero with a print of Martin and Creepshow, Bill Paxton with Near Dark, and Jonathan Demme with Silence of the Lambs. Damn, man. No more. They'll also be showing the original Cat People, Eraserhead, Replace, Sequence Break, The Gate, Society, and Phenomena. Protect yourself, Argento. Protect yourself, Lynch. Please!

While I'm sure its widely known that he has an incredibly weak filmography overall he did make the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and thats such an iconic film. He has accomplished so much that many others didnt get to do and is an iconic name in horror.

RIP Tobe Hooper!

This is a great read. Not sure if anyone's posted this elsewhere on this site, but here's Joe Bob Briggs' (under John Bloom in the article) piece about the making of *in my best John Larroquette voice* the Texas Chainsaw Massacre: http://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/they-came-they-sawed/

Protect yourself, Argento. Protect yourself, Lynch. Please!
I had to knock on wood just reading this. Argento hasn't seemed to be in the best of health for a few years.

I was looking to see if anyone put together a good collection of memorial messages from people that knew and worked with him, but I found this old A. V. Club interview making the rounds instead.

Basically talking about how Tobe never called her by her name, just as "that actress."

She also said she wasn't invited to the original premiere of the film even though others were. There was also an issue where she was pressured to do nude scenes for the film, complete with nude photos for a supposedly "private collection." She was expected to do it for free. She refused.

She said that she was doing just fine and that she wasn't grieving.
