Annabel and Lucas are faced with the challenge of raising his young nieces that were left alone in the forest for 5 years.... but how alone were they?

This was pretty decent. The CGI was really distracting and absolutely annoying, but I did love the oldest of the little girls, she was a very talented actress. Jessica was amazing in her role as the uncle's girlfriend and really made this movie as good as it was. Still it's better than some of the crap that comes out these days, so not bad. 7.5/10

Good movie, but once "Mama" was exposed, it completely killed any scare factor that she already had. Still going to buy this though.

I saw this opening night and while the teenagers that crowded the theater annoyed the hell out of me, they didn't really wreck the movie for me. Jessica did a splendid job. Same goes for the two little girls. The scares were decent, though some weren't at all necessary. A couple of them made me jump, I must admit lol. It was beautifully shot and many parts of the film had an appropriately 'chilly' feel to them. The "ghost hair across the floor" reminded me of some kind of stereotypical Asian horror. I laughed, though it was meant to be scary, ha. Only one or two moments were cheesy and that was one of them, thankfully. I was surprised by the ending. If you want a typical happy ending, you may want to steer clear of this movie. They showed "Mama" WAY too much toward the end. I agree that it killed the scare factor.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Overall I'd give this about a 7.5/10. It wasn't amazing. It wasn't bad. It was just a good, solid movie that I plan on rewatching, but not until I can see it on DVD.

This movie was a complete surprise in my book. The girls were amazing in their roles, and the theme was complete fairytale, I love it. Jessica pulled the alt rocker look off, didn't think she would. The only problem I had was the uncle not getting enough screentime, Nicolaj is a splendid actor.
But not to pedal on about the minor flaw(IMO), easily one of the first great stories to come out this year.

This was the most recent horror film I watched. Really loved it and the girls were excellent but it was let down by the ending, imo. After seeing Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty where I didnt like her at all i was pleasantly surprised how good she was in this.

I wept like a child at the end every time I went to see it. It's one the most beautiful films I've seen in the last ten years. I love fairytale-style films with a dark, serious edge (Pan's Labyrinth, for example) and I'm definitely buying the combo pack when I get paid tomorrow. Truly magnificent, in my book.

Seeing as Guillermo del Toro produced, that's hardly a surprise.

Loved the two little girls and the story up until the end.
Agreed with the reveal of Mama too much, it would have kept some of the creep factor if they hadn't revealed her fully.
I didn't like the ending, it left me pretty much saying "WTF?!"

This movie really took me by surprise. The effects for Mama were beautiful to watch, especially at the end. Annabel was my favorite character, watching her blossom and change under pressure was realistic and believable. The oldest daughter was a delight to watch, tough and vulnerable. 9/10.
