I honestly LOVE this and Seed. I think people are way too hard on them both for being comedy-horror as opposed to horror. I don't get that anger, though, as Child's Play 3 was total proof that if the series was going to continue, it needed to try something new. |

I like this one a lot more than Seed. Seed, granted hits the guilty pleasure button, but this can be serious when it wants to. It was actually a lot of fun back in the day and I still find it mildly enjoyable. I loved Tiffany. |

I love this one. It's got a great soundtrack, great cast, and overall is just a refreshing addition to the series. The whole Andy schtick in the first 3 movies got old and giving Chucky a bride/girlfriend/partner in crime was cool. And slightly distrubing. That sex scene..bleurgh. Lol. |

Both this and Seed have amazing soundtracks... Very different, ones, though. Bride has a very 90s metal/rock soundtrack, whereas Seed has a very pop/punk/alternative/early-mid 2000s-esque soundtrack. They're both very indicative of the time periods they came out in. |

Bride is a lot of fun. Nice kills and wicked soundtrack. I like that they were able to mix the humor so well with the malice. And Jennifer Tilly is pretty delicious in so many ways. I thought this was the perfect way to return to the Child's Play series after part three, which is likely my least favorite film in the series. |

David was easily the coolest gay dude in horror history. I love that blonde queerbait. I want more gay characters like him. He was just so cool, particularly for a 90s movie. |

This here is one of the more impressive entries in the genre and one of the better ones in the series. One of the main issues is the fact that there's an utterly perfect balance between the horrific and the humorous, as this combines utterly perfect laugh-out-loud moments, from hilarious one-liners to sight gags and puns, mixed in with the horror- centered areas present here. It's the comedy here that wins out for the most part, from the failed ceremony, the continuous references to the other toy dolls she has laying around and the utterly hilarious running gag of everybody's reaction to Tiffany and Chucky dolls throughout the film, though the greatest material is their quips and jokes to each other. These are truly gut-busting as the dolls begin conversing about being out-of-touch in regards to movie-killer practices and trying to instill the need for variety in the kills to be committed or in their relationship woes which sound like real, actual relationship arguments but come off as hilarious due to the nature of being said by plastic dolls. As well with the comedy, the horror elements here are wholly impressive including the extravagant visual flair found in many of the scenes here that readily turns this into a comedy, from the initial attack in the trailer-park house that gets her into doll-form as the distraction from the movie allows for the trap to be deployed which is just suitably perfect here. The road-trip nature here allows for the great traveling scenes as well, with the diner attack coming off nicely with the explosive reaction and general panic or the utterly insane kill at the motel which is really impressive here and gives this a spectacular centerpiece sequence. Even the finale at the graveyard is fun with the numerous stalking to get the upper-hand, the confrontation over the grave is fun and there's a lot to like with the great action in the big brawl here to finally end this. All of this means the pace is perfect with tons of outstanding encounters to keep the pace going strong with tons of high-energy action and plentiful gore provided by the outstanding kills here. As well, the film gets an absolute ton of positives from the stellar special effects work for the dolls, as this is an absolutely amazing part of the film. Given that this one spends as much time as it does here showcasing them on-screen, they need to come off flawlessly and they manage to come across as realistic dolls and puppets throughout here due to these perfectly conceived creations. Mixed along with a return to the more horror-centric side of Chucky, these manage to create an overall winning film. While there's a ton to love here, there are a few small, near-inconsequential flaws to this. One of the biggest is that it does tend to homage too many other films at times and feel more like it's actively trying to be funny or clever without doing anything important to the film trying to awkwardly shove the reference into the scene. This also bleeds somewhat into the other flaw, that the comedic one-liners are a bit much to get over and wear themselves out somewhat. However, since this one doesn't have too many real flaws there's so much to like here it becomes quite impressive. |

Yay! Really glad that you like this one so much. For some reason, I thought you might be kind of 'meh' about it since A LOT of people randomly see it as one of the two worst of the series! I agree that the pacing is pretty much perfect. Sure, there are a couple of characters we didn't get to know much of at all but that's mostly fine since the six or seven who DO get a lot to do are interesting enough.

I've mentioned it several times on the forum here that this was the film that cemented my interest in the genre. Growing up an action-movie fan and not caring about all the bloodlust and violence featured in horror films, this was the crossover film that made me realize the genre had something to offer and lead to me exploring it in more detail. It's not the first, but it's the one that lead me to being here. You really should've known that about me. |

This was also a big part of my introduction to slashers in particular. (No, I'm not ashamed at all that this was the first Child's Play movie I ever saw.) I thought it was hilarious, though to be fair, I haven't seen it since I was a teenager. Need to fix that. |

Well, I didn't mean slashers. I didn't know that's what it was when I first watched it. I meant Horror as a genre. I wasn't a fan of them as I was literally scared of attempting to watch them growing up, thinking that there was something morally wrong about watching a film with nothing to offer other than bloodshed, gore, torture and sadism as it's selling points. When you're brought up in a religious household and hear those kinds of stories about morality and demons and such, then you go to the video store and see all kinds of horrific zombies, ghouls and beasts dressing the video covers while they all promoted tales of 'bloodsoaked rampages', 'soul-bending horror' and 'carving human flesh for display,' it kind of put the pieces together and made what they were talking about seem true. I really did feel like watching them was going to put me in some kind of moral quandary and that there was something wrong with me for even thinking about watching them. Once I got older and realized it was all just movie-magic and make-up, special effects and props, I kind of eased up on that thinking and tried giving the genre a chance but found nothing but crap when I first dived in. Jaws? No shark, no interest. TCM? That was supposed to be about a massacre, and I get this? Halloween? Bland, boring and slow. I wasn't impressed, and went back to my Jackie Chan/Jet Li/Donnie Yen collection. It wasn't until Bride of Chucky came along that it pulled me in and gave me enough of an action-movie feel alongside the horror that clicked with me that I was going to be fine with these kinds of films. You could do both, and that's where I am now, an unabashed fan all because Bride told me that it was possible to get into horror films. |

Thought of something really fucked up. I tend to watch movies in bed while I try to fall asleep every night. I don't list them as rewatches, as I only have it on during the last few minutes of me falling asleep, so it's not like I'm really REALLY watching, but the other day, this was the movie I chose, and I looked up at the scene where Tiffany shows Chucky the "playpen for the nursery" for when they have children... I never noticed how sick that scene was until just the other day. The fact that the playpen has a top to it that you lock shut and then hide is pretty scary. XD |
