There's a big valentine-party planned in the little coal mining town of Valentine Bluffs, Nova Scotia. It is the first Valentine's Day party in 20 years, because then there was an accident in the mine, and the accident happened because the men responsible for the security was at the party. The sole surviving miner, named Harry Warden, later killed them, and told the town NEVER to arrange a Valentine's Day party again. The party begins, and so does the killing...

What was everyones favorite kill?
I'm torn between the boiling hot dog water and pickaxe through the eye via the chin. Definitely some unique kills here.

Not heard of it, but it's got quite a good plot.

Definitely see it asap! Great kills, some good characters, and close to perfect atmosphere. I wish it'd gotten at least a couple of sequels in the 80s but that could just be my greediness and bloodlust speaking.

(cheers)
I don't think it should have had a sequel though, although it would've been interesting to see 'Harry Warden' become as iconic as Jason or Micheal.

What would've been nice is if Harry Warden (the REAL one) was the killer in a sequel :P

I love this movie. I have always thought that it was one of the best and strongest of the early 80s slasher period, and of all the knock offs. Strong movie with great, iconic killer and eerie atmosphere. I watch it every February. :)

I am one who also hates, hates, hates remakes/reboots of the more modern horror films, but I actually kind of liked the remake of this one.

This is a huge, HUGE favorite of mine. Really great kills (just sucks they got toned down so much for that R rating) and the costume of the killer and the whole underground mine setting were pretty fresh and unique (at least when compared to some others ive seen). Really glad to have the uncut version on DVD. I wish it had better features though.

Rewatched it a few days ago and damn, I'd forgotten just how gnarly some of the uncut kills were. A giant chunk of the three cut minutes = pretty nasty, haha. Adrian thought a few kills were pretty disturbing. I love how its pretty quiet during a lot of kills as opposed to a booming score roaring up during the moment of impact which can be effective but can also be insanely distracting. The only scene I dislike is the 'romantic' scene by the water which felt out of place....oh, and I'm not fond of the junkyard scene either. Thank god both were early on.

I'll be sure to say that in that exact tone of voice (and that accent and all!) to Robby next time me and him have some kind of argument. Total win. (lol)

I remember I rented this from a video store when I was around 14 and fell in love with it. I rented it a lot and bought it a few years back. It is such a great movie even with the sometimes spotty acting and cheesy scenes, lol.

My favorite kill is the shower scene, hands down. Such an intense moment and it gets to me every time.

The ending sing-song has always freaked me out, and I love the Ballad of Harry Warden that plays over the credits.

Overall, I have to give this one a 9/10 because it's just so damn good! (Also, I think I read that they tried to make a sequel but I forget why it didn't happen. I don't remember the plot but I do recall thinking that it didn't sound very good, haha.)

Oh, and count me in on the side of liking the remake. :)

Yeah, I like the remake too but this is a lot better imo. The main thing I prefer about the remake is the musical score. The shower kill was AMAZING (well...the uncut version, anyway).

I actually like the cut and uncut shower scene... Both are equally creepy but I do like actually getting to see what was done to her. Personally, chase scenes and what I call 'hide and seek' scenes are what really freak me out and I think the hide and seek freaks me out because of the shower scene!

I agree completely. Sure, the reveal of their deaths was pretty rad, but it would've been nice to see

Damn I love this movie, haha. If only the remake had been as good as (or better than) this. :/
