I watched this a long, long time ago--and I watched the TV show of the same name, and found it interesting. I haven't seen the movie in years, but I really miss the TV show. Good stuff.

Based on the DC comics character. It's okay, but honestly I think I might like the sequel more.

I'd like to see Swamp Thing pop up in a new DC movie. This upcoming BATMAN VS SUPERMAN apparently is just JUSTICE LEAGUE is disguise, so why not?

I liked this a lot but it wasn't AS good/fun/entertaining/crazy as I thought it'd be. It played things mostly straight, with only some big comedic moments scattered throughout. One of my favorite characters died too early on and a couple others who had potential didn't get as much to do as I hoped they would. The pacing was also a little off. It was at its fastest in the first act, the third act moved somewhat quickly but was a little underwhelming, and the second act had a couple of scenes that went on too long and were just flat out boring. I liked the music a lot, none of the performances bothered me, the setting was perfect, and I liked the effects. There were some cheesy bits but nothing too distracting. I kind of want a really well done remake of this that adds some of the funnier, over-the-top bits that the second film had since those kind of moments and one liners really work for things like this. I still haven't read the comics so I can't really compare the film(s) to the comics but I'm assuming the comics are a little bit funnier than this film was. It's always great seeing Adrienne Barbeau, Ray Wise, David Hess, and some of the others and even better seeing them all in one place so that's a huge thing this has going for it, lol.

I liked it, it's not AMAZING, it's a much better film than the second one but not as quirky and fun.

6/10 quality, 6/10 entertainment.

In its defense, Swamp Thing in the comics has never been quirky and fun. Especially during his most acclaimed stretch, when he was written by Alan Moore. If they decide to make another ST flick, it's Moore's stuff that they need to take their cues from, and the great gothic horror aspects he brought to it.

As for this flick, I saw it as a kid during its initial cable run back in the early '80s, when I was around 10 or so. Loved it. Big, strong guy ripping hoods off of trucks and crushing a dude's skull with one hand was all kinds of awesome to me. Plus the kid's "Oh, shit, there goes the neighborhood" line cracked me up (it wasn't quite so common an expression back then). And even at that pre-pubescent age, I was aware of how major a MILF Adrienne Barbeau was. (lol)

I have the uncut DVD of this. Barbeua boob-scene intact.

I need to watch this again, I haven't seen it in a LONG time since before I was possibly even 10 on the Sci-Fi channel (or Syfy), so I was just a stupid little kid not knowing what I was watching. But it was an odd movie to watch, but it was as it was titled to be, Swamp Thing, did not even know it was based on a DC Comics character. But what REALLY stunned me was the fact that it was directed by Wes freaking Craven. WTH?, Wes did this?

I really need to get this on DVD/Blu-Ray, because I heard that Wes had apparently did an audio commentary on this film, and so I am now dying to hear about his thoughts on this film. What's even more odder is that he was actually supposed to direct Superman IV, but left due to creative differences with Chris Reeve. But it just makes me wonder, aside from Swamp Thing, what would a Wes Craven-directed superhero film be like?

Was that only on the Blu-Ray? I've owned the original MGM DVD for years, and recently got that four-pack set that I was told was the uncut version. I compared the two, and they were the same version.
