This is silly and definitely not top shelf Craven, but I've always kind of liked it. Watch out for the basketball scene! |

I love the movie. It's not Craven's best nor is it a well liked movie, but I still dig it. Hate the ending though. |

Wes has said he isn't a fan of this one. The end result had more to do with the studio and wanting more of a commercial appeal. |

Horrible ending but a great film nonetheless. Great acting, some powerful and dramatic scenes and one of the most RANDOM horror deaths ever! 8.5/10 |

I'm probably the weirdest person ever for this but I actually didn't love the basketball scene. I mean, the initial impact was awesome but the body walking around and the OBVIOUS stilts and dummy pieces jutting out everywhere made it unbearably hokey. Sure, the movie as a whole is rather cheesy (which is what is so charming about it) but that was a bit much even for a movie with a girl making her hands look like robot claws and an adorable robot wheeling around repeatedly saying its name in the cutest robot voice ever. I really liked the four major characters (five counting BB who is my favorite<3). All of them were fleshed out and it was nice that the mother of the lead guy had a fair amount of stuff to do. Sure, she didn't have too many HUGE scenes but she felt like an active character instead of just someone who happened to live in the same house as the main guy (which is common in teen driven films). She also had some really hilarious moments too. The drink-drugging scene was one of my favorites. I liked that the 'love story' aspect of this wasn't too overwhelming. I think I like the three main characters more as just friends anyway. It feels a bit more realistic that way, I guess. I HATED Samantha's father. Urgh. Hatehatehated him. But I hated that haggard old woman even more because Spoiler: click to toggle How dare she! That monster! There were some pretty violent kills in this but it took a while for them to start. The bodycount was about average for a film like this. They should've Spoiler: click to toggle The last twenty minutes or so really clashed with the first hour of this. I really don't care for the ending. It just doesn't fit with the rest of the film. Maybe if the film as a whole had been super dark and sad, it'd fit but...as it is now, it's a borderline kid friendly (minus the gore) film that was surprisingly light a lot of the time. The ending just feels out of place, forced, and random. I also don't like that Spoiler: click to toggle Still, I liked this. And I love the end credit song. Long live BB<3.5/10 quality, 7.5/10 entertainment. |

Hey guys, check this out: https://www.change.org/p/warner-bros-home-entertainment-release-deadly-friend-director-s-cut-on-blu-ray-dvd This is a petition for Warner Bros. to consider releasing Wes Craven's original vision for Deadly Friend on home video. Wes and writer Bruce Joel Rubin originally envisioned the film to be more of a PG-rated supernatural sci-fi drama-thriller with a tragic & macabre love story at its center. Wes wanted to prove that he could do more than just horror. That was until WB screened the film to a test audience consisted of Craven's fan base; The response was negative, criticizing the lack of violence and gore seen in other Craven films, and it was when WB found out about Craven's popularity as a horror director. Thus WB demanded rewrites and reshoots to make the film more like a blatant slasher film, much to Wes's disappointment and frustration. Though the petition may not come out successful, but if you are a die-hard Wes Craven fan and feel the need to repay him in some generous way, then maybe consider signing it, as I once did... For Wes.

No problem. And same here, I'd love to see what that version, as well. One of the most notorious "What-If?" movies in film history. Don't know how it would've turned out if that film was released, but I'll bet it would've been much better than what we've ended up with, and possibly an interesting experimental departure from Wes's other films.
