Dennis Allan is a scientist who visits Haiti on the strength of a rumour of a drug which renders the recipient totally paralyzed but conscious. The drug's effects often fool doctors, who declare the victims dead. Could this be the origin of the "zombie" legend? Alan embarks on a surprising and often surreal investigation of the turbulent social chaos that is Haiti during the revolution which ousted hated dictator "Baby Doc" Duvalier. Often a pawn in a greater game, Alan must decide what is science, what is superstition, and what is the unknown in a anarchistic society where police corruption and witch-doctory are commonplace.

I love the cover they're using for the collector's edition blu-ray. I'm glad I don't like this that much, because I think it would do a lot to convince me that I wanted it.

This is probably Wes Craven's best "serious" film, and that blu-ray cover is PHENOMENAL.

^ Well. Shit. That blows.

Either way, I look forward to it. This is probably Craven's best. I can't wait for the new release!

Really good flick. Goes a bit overboard at the end but the first two acts are completely involving. I've always thought Bill Pullman was an underrated actor; everything he appears in, he's completely believable. Co-starring the late, great Zakes Mokae. Most of the voodoo demonstrations in the opening scenes were real and filmed live, by the way.

I really like this one too. And I do agree about the ending. It's a bit too much. Still, that doesn't stop me from liking the movie. At all.

Solid movie overall and I agree about Pullman being a bit of an overlooked actor. It was an interesting move on Craven's part to make a film hearkening to the roots of zombie film by making a Haitian zombie flick instead of the increasingly popular (even at that time) Romero-style zombie.

There are only two things I know about this movie: a) it's about voodoo, and b)
Spoiler: click to toggle

Yikes. This is definitely one I should look out for.
