In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven teens, or did he survive the night he was left for dead? Only one of the kids knows the answer. Adam "Bug" Heller (Max Thieriot) was supposed to die on the last night the Riverton Ripper wrecked havoc on that terrifying night. Unaware of terrifying crimes being committed to the seven children, he has been plagued by nightmares of their murders while not aware if they hold true or if he is simply imagining the images that haunt him. But if Bug hopes to save his friends from the monster that's returned, he must face an evil that won't rest...until it finishes the job it began the day he was born.

I really liked Penlope. She's sweet and not as annoying the first time I watched. She was the religious nut.
She meant well but she was just...pretty annoying and one dimensional to me. I didn't HATE her as much as I tend to hate overly religious characters (mainly because she wasn't cruel or super negative and judgemental) but she wasn't anything special and I was relieved

Bad? She just got her throat slit.

It was still a pretty nasty throat slicing though. :P Overall this was a lot bloodier than expected. Really glad that the death order was far from what I expected it to be (and was afraid of it being). I figured the order would be

That would've been disgustingly predictable lol.

Off-screen = nasty? :P //threadjack

Yeah, the order surprised me too. I expected it to be like that.

Definietly John. If you're going to have an off screen death that's the way to go.

Disappointing, One of Craven's weak efforts.

I liked this film. Is this a film that will change the trajectory of the horror genre like Scream did? No. Is it a film that I'll ever mention as one of my top favorites? Hell no. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it for what it was: A mindless, 3D teen horror flick with lots of kills. I enjoyed it for what it was.

With that said, it's kind of proof that Wes is a better director than he is a screenwriter.

I do have to laugh when I watch it, though, as I met a girl at a Halloween party once who said it was her favorite movie. I asked why, and she went on about the deep, emotional subtext of the film... I like the film, but deep and subtext are not words that pop up when I think of it... Or most Craven films, for that matter.

This was a fairly decent effort but still has some pretty big flaws present, as is the norm for most of Craven's work. The concept here is pretty good and definitely has some legs, the early stalking scenes are fine and the film has some pretty good cheesy action scenes with the river celebration and the classroom presentation among them. Even the kills were pretty good and got some good stuff out of them, and the house finale is a real standout. However, the fact that this one doesn't seem to want to make up it's mind about what's going on, since it's a body-possession-by-the-serial-killer film, a killer-resurrected-by-his-own-curse film or a stranger killing people off under the influence of a curse, and there's ample evidence to support each one making for a lot of uncertainty as to what's going on. Then there's the absurd amount of time spent with a group of victims that don't really warrant the action and just make the lack of the killer's screen presence all the more obvious. Those are far more damaging than the good stuff, and really lower it a lot.
Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup?

Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs.

I like the concept... And that's about all this I'll give this. Not much suspense, the plot isn't fleshed out, and the characters are uniformly underdeveloped. In fact, I think the only one with any semblance of layers was that obnoxious jock guy

Especially hated the sister, who's one of the most unlikeable horror survivors I've ever seen. At least most the others are inoffensive or forgettable

Puppy, just because there's no evidence she killed her aunt doesn't make her dating material.
