Plot:
Timmy Robinson's best friend in the whole wide world is a six-foot tall rotting zombie named Fido. But when FIDO eats the next-door neighbor, Mom and Dad hit the roof, and Timmy has to go to the ends of the earth to keep Fido a part of the family. A boy-and-his-dog movie for grown ups, "FIDO" will rip your heart out.

I saw this one time a while back and it exceeded my expectations bigtime, haha. I seriously loved its parody of 1950s lifestyles and the 'wholesomeness' of America (as if it was ever really like that) and how it managed to throw zombies into the mix, with people treating the undead as household slaves to do chores for them. It was a pretty good little social commentary on 1940s-60s America (50s especially, of course) and on the zombie subgenre in general. It handled everything well, with okay deaths, likeable characters and some surprises here and there<3. 7.5/10.

Yeah this one turns out pretty good. Love how the boy tries to cover up things when Fido's collar goes on the fritz. "Is that blood on your zombie?"

To be honest, I didn’t have very high expectations when I sat down to watch Fido for the first time a couple years back, but I found myself really liking it, and decided to revisit it recently. It still holds up, maybe even better this time around. It’s cleverly written and the actors do a great job of supplying that Leave it to Beaver meets Night of the Living Dead feel. It’s not your traditional horror movie though. In fact it’s not really a horror movie at all, even though it has zombies in it.

The cast delivered a homerun in Fido. Often times in genre flicks, you might get one or two great performances, but there are a lot to choose from here. If I had to single one person out, it would be Carrie-Anne Moss. She was spot on as the housewife that pines for a higher social status. Her interactions with Billy Connolly were great. Speaking of Connolly, he brought a level of emotion to a zombie that I haven’t seen before, especially for a character that doesn’t speak.

What I have a hard time figuring out is how in the hell has Andrew Curie not directed a movie since Fido, or written one for that matter. He did a great job here and it’s a shame that he hasn’t done anything since. I would love to see what else he can deliver.

Like I said, this isn’t a typical horror movie. Honestly, it plays more like a family movie, just with zombies. Even so, I think most horror fans would get a kick out of it. I would have to imagine that if Fido were released today, it would be success at the box office with zombies being such a pop culture phenomenon. Even so, it’s something you should check out if you haven’t.

I LOVED this movie. Billy Connolly was absolutely brilliant as Fido, and just the whole storyline I thought was perfect.

^This. That's exactly what I thought of it too. I mean, I love zombie movies(most of them anyway ), but it was nice to watch one that was toned down enough that it was something I could sit through with out going, oh god, that's just.. ewww... Posted Image I do that frequently with The Walking Dead-sometimes the effects are a little too real for me :D . I can be a wuss, for a horror fan. (lol)

I quite liked it but never finished it for some reason. Agree with the comments above that it just felt a bit too 'zombies for the whole family'.

Oh you should finish it, family-ish or not (yes) I loved the ending (grin) I mean, yes, I agreed that it was more like a family movie, but I found myself not minding, truthfully. It was a nice change of pace from the usual gore-fests a LOT of zombie movies can be(not that there's anything wrong with that, mind (thumbsup) )

Also, and if it's okay Mods, I'd like to link to my review that I did of it:

My review of Fido

It's not all that great, but it was fun writing it.

Thank you! Glad you thought so. And it was no problem at all. I'd really love to hear any feedback you might have. I want to improve on writing reviews, I really do.

Just keep writing them is my advice. That one is nice and short, it's funny, and very readable. i dont like reviews that are enormous walls of text, super negative ie rather than just say a film is crap the reviewer goes on and on with pretentious adjectives the way professional food critics waffle on, or over the top gushy. I dont know what critics are like in USA but here we have one in particular who really fancies himself. I cant stand him. I'll see if I cn find one of his movie reviews to give you an idea of what i mean. He should change his name to WANKER EXTRAORDINAIRE.

Thank you, that really helped lots. I don't like really long reviews either, that take five paragraphs to convey one thought (blah) . I want mine to be honest and to the point.

I'll keep an eye out for his work in future where you just get the impression he's hungup on sesquipedalian verbiage. See what I did there? LOL.

This is an incredibly cute movie. I don't care that it's Rated R. I would totally show this to my kids. While most parents show their kids movies like Ice Age and The Sandlot, my kids will be watching ParaNorman, Fido, and Scream.

This. Is. Perfect.

I remember really liking this movie when I rented it. Like you said, it was a really cute movie, but it did so without feeling too watered-down.

The film felt very innocent and sweet, but it wasn't afraid to shy away from the fact that it IS a zombie movie.
