The plot depicts the breakdown of society following the accidental release of a highly contagious "rage" virus and focuses upon the struggle of four survivors to cope with the destruction of the life they once knew

So the first time i saw this film, I was a bit disappointed because I'd heard of all this hype leading up to it and for me, it failed to deliver. But then I sat and thought for a while about the film and then rewatched it, alone this time. Yep. It fucking got me. YIKES. For some reason it didn't hit the first time. It was like taking ten shots and saying "Oh I'm fine" and then taking ten more and then BAM, landing on your ass. That was me with this, pretty much lol. It definitely impressed me more the second time around. Everything about it was fantastic. I just wish we'd had one or two female characters :P 8.5/10

Danny Boyle really came into his own with the release of 28 Days Later, a tale of a post apocalyptic United Kingdom where the masses have succumbed to the effects of The Rage Virus. He had shown glimpses of his ability with Trainspotting and even some in The Beach, but 28 Days Later really blew me away.

Jim wakes up in a hospital, having no idea that he has slept through an epidemic that has decimated the population. After wandering around for a bit, he stumbles upon some infected people at a church and is forced to run for his life. Thankfully, he is saved by a couple of other survivors and ferried off to safety. From here we follow Jim, Selena and Mark as they attempt to discover some semblance of a future for them, and mankind.

Eventually they meet up with Frank and his daughter (after losing Mark to infection) and make a plan to head for a radio signal declaring a cure for The Rage. The movie is really split in two parts, with the first part taking place in the city and the second part taking place at a palatial estate that has been converted into a makeshift military complex.

The infected are not the only villains in 28 Days Later. The true horror comes from seeing what people will do to survive and how they react when backed into a corner. The finale is, in my mind, one of the best finishes to a horror film in the last 10 years.

Cillian Murphy does an excellent job with Jim and shows us what a budding star he is. He would work again with Boyle in Sunshine and also portrayed Scarecrow in the two latest Batman flicks. I see big things from him in the future. In a lot of ways I see his early career as a being very similar to that of Christian Bale.

There has been a lot of “discussion” as to whether or not the infected in 28 Days Later are zombies or not. I was of the mind that they were in no way zombies, but have since changed my stance, and my definition of zombies. I think that there are now three classes of zombies; the early Haitian/Slave zombies that we see in films such as White Zombie and I Walked with a Zombie; the undead shufflers brought to us by Romero and Fulci; and now the sprinters that are usually still alive but infected with some sort of disease. Obviously you can’t categorize every movie into these categories, but they do cover the majority of them.

If you have somehow missed seeing this gem, you need to get out and find it. This is one of those movies that even non-genre fans should enjoy.

I'm assuming that's the name of the song. Not sure, the ringtone I downloaded only said the movie's title. It's the song that plays throughout the movie which starts off really soft but then gets really loud. It's absolutely beautiful!

This dvd is STILL sitting in the dusty TV stand. Why I haven't watched it, I'll never know, but I would always imagine scenarios like the synopsis.

Still though, I'm still totally crushing on Cillian even after a decade lol. He's been hot as hell in pretty much all of the things I've seen him in.

Just an amazing film, atmosphere, zombies with usain bolt speed, great cast and Danny Boyle who is an amazing director.

Tip though, do not bother buying this movie in Blu Ray the picture quality is designed to be quite crude and looks no different.

Yeah, I'd only get the Blu-ray if it had more features (and I doubt it has anything new).

There isn't anything different to the DVD version that I can see, not enough to warrant buying the blu ray version anyway.

I'll definitely pass on the Blu-ray then, my DVD is perfectly fine. It'd be cool if the Blu-Ray had a 'choose the ending' feature that allowed viewers to watch the movie with one of the alternate endings instead of the theatrical. Just a thought. :P
