Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand, Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.

I recently rewatched the original in the same night as the first viewing of this, and I thought the beginning where they stumbled over the back story was ridiculously confusing. But in comparison to that, the rest seemed all right. Considering I'd never played the game and never watched the original again after seeing it in the theater. I wish they could have brought back the original writing and directing team from the first, because this had a different atmosphere and tone--that showed in the worst ways. However, I felt it did pretty good with what it had. They are movies I would add to my collection and watch on a rainy day.

Also, I agree Radha and Sean were totally underused, and if they'd made the Vincent character just a bit more complex I might have bought into that sub-plot a bit more.
I agree about the tonal shift- its pretty jarring. The first had a terrifying atmosphere and the second is more so goofball fun.

I'm kind of glad they had some fun with it (if this had been dead serious it would've fallen on its ass since 99% of what happened in this film was fucking ridiculous) but I agree that a dark atmosphere is better for Silent Hill.

I don't think it was that bad, I don't play the games though(cuz I suck at it in general) so I can't really compare them. Some of it I was scratching my head at and saying what the hell to. I agree the backstory for Vincent could've been explored a little more instead of what little was said about it and some of the characters could've had some more screen time. The nurses scene could've had some more work to it.

The girl who played Heather, I think, did a good job to make her look convincing and let's not forget she is pretty to look at.

I kind of wish that we'd gotten a 'middle of the road' sequel that was a proper balance of scares and 'fun.' That way we would've been 'eased into it' I guess.

One of the worst films of 2012 if not the worst horror film released that year. Filled with plot holes, bad writing and some awful CGI. I did like some stuff in the carnival and the stuff with the nurses was excellent. I didn't care for the first that much but at least that wasn't as bad as this. 3/10

I loved loved loved Silent Hill. So I was so excited about this! I was utterly disappointed I could have cried.... I sat at my screen at the end asking... why oh why did they butcher a movie with so much potential so.....

This movie is pretty good, though I'm not really a fan of the first movie, or the games for that matter. I hope Sean Bean returns to star in a third film. That could be fun.

Biggest disappointment of 2012. It had some great scenes like the nurses scene and the carnival but everything else was awful. I said that a page back but oh well, still sucks.

I really don't know why they didn't get Jodelle, she was 18 when this was made. If this would of had Jodelle, more gore/kills, and a less idotic third act I would enjoy it.

That's pretty much the best thing about it. Well...that and the overall look of the film (aside from the third act). Can't BELIEVE I gave this a semi-positive review when I first saw it. Shoot me, please.

Mhmm and no, shooting you would get me into trouble and I could go to jail for that. Jail isn't a nice place I'm told.

I didn't like the first either but at least that had terrific acting and a great atmosphere. This was just riddled with bad effects and inexcusable plot-holes. It did have some amazing scenes like in the carnival and when the two characters had to hide from the nurses (I was nearly sweating because I knew a jump scare was going to happen.) but as a whole the film is just awful.

For the most part this one wasn’t all that bad and really had some good parts to it. What really tends to make this one work is the fact that there's an exciting slew of scenes here that not only help with the action but also manages to help the story make more sense coming off the original which is quite surprising. Though the original does good enough with what's presented here, this one really fleshes the story out more by going all-out for the two features by managing to convey the mysterious voices in her head, her strange dreams and constant fleeting visions of shadows stalking her in the first half as being quite important to the film. Not only are they great suspense-builders at generating rather creepy scenes, they also come with a special point that's slowly revealed about her true destiny and how that all ties into the initial escape here which is quite a novel concept here at using scares to sell the story. That also leaves quite a nice balancing act in the second half as the first half tends to run more on the suspense route while the second one comes off more as an action-packed showcase with a large amount of thrilling action scenes all centered in the titular town which is the best part to this. The initial walk-through of the deserted city streets, the attempts at avoiding the patrols in the amusement park and the main sequence of her trying to get out of the underground tunnels filled with strange monsters and deformed mutants down below is really exciting and packs enough action, gory kills and fantastic visuals to make for a stand-out sequence that's wholly enjoyable while still managing to combine the earlier tactics of focusing on the action to tell the story. These are more than enough to hold off the one main flaw with this one, as it's easily the 3D workings throughout here. This is painful to watch in 3D with camera angles purposefully tilted at odd angles simply so claws, blades or tongues from the different creatures can be thrust into the screen in utterly-shoddy CGI that never looks realistic or enjoyable. It's a lame tactic that never works well and always manages to ruin the scene whenever it's featured, which makes those scenes distracting and obvious, hurting what would otherwise be a rather enjoyable entry.

Rewatched it recently after having hated it for so many years. Surprisingly, I found it very fun! Not great, but there's no denying that the monsters are awesome and the production design is top notch.

In the filmmaking industry, professional script readers will give a new script 10-15 pages to capture their attention and lure them in. If for any reason the script fails to do so, they chuck it aside and move on to the next one.

I'm the exact same way with movies. I watched the first fifteen minutes; it failed to draw me in and make me want to see more, so I quit on it.

Can't say I didn't try. And from what I've read from a lot of horror fans, I didn't miss much.
