Horror Quote Of The Moment

Welcome to Under The Morgue.

We have sections for each decade of film, from the 1910s onward, as well as sections for 10+ major franchises, close to 50 'smaller' franchises (containing five entries or less), creative writing, independent filmmaking, photography, music, Non-Horror films and TV shows, forum games, and boredom busters, and to top it all off there's an IM shoutbox at the bottom of the page for random chat. From the tame and 'kid sister friendly' to the psychological and mindbending to cheesy splatter flicks to hardcore torture-oriented horror, there's something here for everyone, so why not dive in?

What are some sequels that managed to beat the very first film that started their series?

I'm a sequels nut so you better believe I got a ton-

Scream 2- I think it's better
Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter- I think it's better
A Nightmare On Elm Street 3- Not better but I enjoy it more
Halloween II '81- Not better but enjoy it more
Child's Play 2- Better
Final Destination 2- A mixture of being better and enjoying it more lol
Evil Dead '13- Better
Urban Legends Final Cut- Better
I Still Know- Better

Oh my I have such a love for Part 2's LOL.

Friday The 13th Part 2
Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter

The only two F13s that are really BETTER than the original, though several are more entertaining and memorable.

Saw II, III, and VI all managed to capture the same (or at least a similar) feel as the original film had, packing quite a visceral and emotional punch at times, featuring better casts than the one in the original and more. Not only do I prefer them but - shoot me for saying this - I see them as being better.

George Romero's Dawn Of The Dead and Day Of The Dead (the originals, of course) are better than Night Of The Living Dead, both featuring a bigger scale events/locations-wise, but still remaining intimate. Better deaths, pacing, and some truly fantastic dialogue boost these up a bit. I prefer Night Of The Living Dead, but I'm glad to admit that Dawn is probably the better film overall.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare. To me, this really IS better. It had the same amount of effective scares (if not more), deliciously evil lines courtesy of Freddy who was finally 'frightening' again, terrific homages to past films that may be easily spotted but are certainly not moments of desperation on the writers part. It's one of the better 'meta' themed Horror films out there.

Evil Dead (2013) could go in the sequel thread OR this thread. Either way, I had more fun with it, the gore and effects in general were better, the character development was better, the pacing was better. Almost everything was better. There is a gigantic gap between this film and the original, and the two films that are between the two.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer managed to be just as suspenseful as the first, but featured better characters (I only liked 3 people in the first) and WAY better kills. The meanstreak was beautiful, ha.

I'll certainly agree with Dawn and Day. I like Night because of historical reasons but as actual movies I love Dawn and esp Day.

Some days I like House of 1000 Corpses better but Devils Rejects is always the superior movie.

I enjoyed Slumber Party Massacre 3 better than the original. Definitely the best in the series for me.

Guess I need to stay out of this thread. I'm losing respect for people left and right.

I enjoyed Phantasm II better than Phantasm. Even though the original was good at least to introduce the characters imo.

A Nightmare on Elm Street III aka Dream Warriors That's one of my favorite of the A Nightmare on Elm Street series. I guess because most managed to fight back yet get killed in the process.

Creepshow II managed to creep me out more than the original. The Hitchhicker story especially.
