A mysterious creature from another planet, resembling a giant blob of jelly, lands on earth. The people of a nearby small town refuse to listen to some teenagers who have witnessed the blob's destructive power. In the meantime, the blob just keeps on getting bigger.

I loved this movie, despite the fact that it's super dated and somewhat cheesy (no fault of it's own, it IS good and I would kill to have seen it when it first hit theaters). The cast was great and the story was solid. I can't wait to see the remake.

I only saw about two minutes of it before diving for cover. Mind you, this was about 30 years ago. I've never seen it since.

A classic of 50's B movies if ever there was one. Enjoy this one a lot.

One of my favorites. The beginning theme song is so far from scary. It puts me in a good mood to enjoy the rest of it's old-fashioned charm.

Not really all that great as I thought it would be, as there's some pretty big flaws to this one. One of the main ones here is due to the consistently irritating efforts of the film to stay with the teens and their lifestyle that serve almost no entertainment value since I don't enjoy that lifestyle at all, leaving the beginning to feel way too slowed down and convoluted, having to jump back into the plot almost an after-thought the way it's so clumsily handled because they're showcasing the teens rather than keeping the story moving. The attacks, though, are a lot of fun and generate some good suspense and action, particularly the finale in the diner where it seems to spread everywhere and resulting in lots of ways to go at the being, so it does save itself some particular points that way, but it could've had a lot more with a bit of reworking.
Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup?

Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs.

I'm a big fan of The Blob. It's a prime example of late 50's teen/creature movies. The FX are pretty impressive for the era and its paced very well.

I'm a big enough Blob fan to have attended the Blobfest in Pa, so I'm a total geek for this movie.

Yep, it's a real event. https://www.facebook.com/BlobFest

They do a " running out " of the theater, in honor of the famous scene in the film. Classic films run all weekend and there's a cool street fair with vendors and rockabilly bands. It's small, but if you are anywhere near Phoenixville, Pa and you're a fan of The Blob, you'll have fun.

This is one of those classics that doesn't get old. Neither this nor the 1988 remake.

What's there to say really? It's a classic for a reason. Well-acted, well-scripted 50's creature feature. I generally prefer Chuck Russell's remake, but there's no denying the strength of this one.
