On New Year's Eve, the luxury ocean liner, Poseidon, capsizes after being swamped by a rogue wave. The survivors are left to fight for survival as they attempt to escape the sinking ship.

My least faave of the four Poseidon films, this is still a good film but suffers from a few big issues. Only ONE surprising death (though in the minutes before his/her death, it became obvious it'd happen lol), some paperthin characters, a rushed pacing (the original was 2 hrs, this was UNDER 1 hr 30 min before the credits rolled), and some jenky CGI. Fergie and a few others were very underused and I was able to predict a ton of things that happened. I still recommend it to fans of the original and disaster films in general since its not a BAD movie. Its ust not great either.

That's probably why you didn't mind this too much.

The original is FAR more effective and jolting, especially for being a forty year old film.

Fun fact from Wiki lol;

"The film holds a Guinness World Record for having the most detailed CG model in a film. The exterior shots included 181,579 individual objects, including 382 cabins, 876 portholes, 73 towels, and 681 deck chairs, all of which were created by digital effects company Industrial Light & Magic."

Watching this again the other night made me like it ALOT more than I used to! In fact, the only real complaint I have? Fergie's character didn't have ANYTHING to do and the capsizing happened too quickly. They should've waited until the 30 minute mark (give us ten more minutes of character development) before having the disaster occur. Instead, it happened like..19 minutes in. Still, the setpieces were breathtaking and the pacing AFTER the capsizing was near perfect. Very underrated and definitely better than the two previous films (but its still "meh" compared to the 1972 original).

It really doesn't matter what order you see them in (just make sure you see The Poseidon Adventure (1972) BEFORE Beyond The Poseidon Adventure (1979). Poseidon Adventure '05 and Poseidon '06 can be seen at any time :)

I liked it but I so wanted the Latin characters Valentin and Elena to survive especially since she was there to see her sick little brother in New York but she didn't have a ticket. :'(
