I need to rewatch this. I really liked it the first few times I saw it. Does anyone else remember when this was on television constantly? I think I just saw it too many times and started liking it less.

I take it you don't like unhappy endings and whatnot? I thought the end was pretty great.

I need to get around to rewatching this sometime but I doubt I'll ever be watching the supposedly atrocious sequels.

The sequels aren't even legit sequels- they're just low budget films that tried cashing in with those titles. It's like how Final Stab was dubbed as "Scream 4".

I did not find this movie scary or creep at all but I did find it really interesting.

There was a great twist at the end of the movie, which I did not see coming out, it was the perfect ending for this movie.

Acting was really good from the whole cast. I going to give this 7 out of 10

The ending is the absolute best part of this film, though. I don't think I'd love this movie nearly as much without the ending.

This here is quite enjoyable enough though it's certainly flawed.

One of the main factors here is in it's use of classic tropes and set- ups for it's scenes as it's refreshing to see a modern day horror film that hearkens back to the classic Gothic films of the 50s and 60s. It relies so much on setting rather than on anything else, and the setting here is a creepy house in the modern day times. The Louisiana setting is milked for all it's worth, and the local flavor given to the house in the film is quite authentic and makes for a spooky setting with the large moss-covered trees, dense lush swamplands and plenty of creepy goings-on within the massive wooden house itself as the old-school vibe is quite clear and really captures the old Hammer style.

It also makes the viewer constantly on edge during the film, and that's based off a series of startling elements featured throughout with some rather fun jump-scares of the ghosts coming along throughout the house which is made all the better with the strong inclusion of the mystical elements brought into the story. This is quite effective and brings about a chilling atmosphere here that's quite impressive with some rather intriguing aspects of integrating these elements into the classic Gothic ghost story.

As well, that is capped off with a great finale which is even more fun that is really action-packed and features a lot of great stalking moments, is full of surprises as well as a twist that is inventive and surprising yet also can be seen coming fairly early. It's the real highlight of the film, even though the film does have a few problems.

The main issue here is the film is incredibly confusing as hardly anything is ever explained and those that are explained only raise questions rather than clarify. The hoodoo angle brought up is just confusing and it isn't properly introduced to the story. It comes in and really doesn't add much to the story at all, which is a waste. It could've been integrated so much better than what it is in the film.

Also, the film is quite lacking in scares. It's got miles and miles of suspense, but nothing that will make a person jump. There's a couple other little nicks and knacks here and there that don't quite work for the film, but those are all judgment calls rather than technical issues.
Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup?

Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs.
