A flesh-eating virus spreads throughout a cruise ship in the Caribbean after it crashes into an abandoned scientific research boat.

The trailer that was reported on many news sites was fake. I just found out that the writers of Texas Chainsaw 3D are doing this so my hopes are lower but we'll see.

Just finished it, and not really sure what Derek is talking about. This WAS way better than the second. This was also far from boring. Not as good as the first, but I liked it. The catfight between the two infected girls made me wince a bit lol.

Glad to hear! I was expecting it to be better than 2 but not as good as the first. I can totally live with that, honestly. Hopefully I'll like it .

I really want to see it with Robby since he loved the first but I'm OCD about introducing movies to people out of order....but I don't want to sit through the terrible second one again. (cry)

Yesterday, actually ;) Saw it on there last night lol. I'll probably (finally) have my triple feature with Robby when he's over next week. Is the second one still on Netflix?

This was really enjoyable. The risk of the film taking a more serious tone totally was worth it, didn't take me out of the film at all or feel like it belonged in a different series. Honestly, out of all three, I liked this one the most.

I like it more than CF2 but not as much as the first. This had some pretty cool things thrown into it (love the quarantine aspect, someone being immune, the location, etc) but suffered from its slow-at-times pace, smaller than usual bodycount, and an ending that was a big fat "huh?" I get what happened but I feel they could've executed the last 'twist' better. What I really want to know is how they got Sean Astin to star in this lol.
Some of the deaths were good but they lacked the suckerpunch/shock value of the first and the gross out factor of the second. Still not complaining when it comes to that even though the catfight was a bit silly, the 'shoot his hand off' bit was cheesy as hell, and the infected looked more like funky zombies than anything.
Some of the characters annoyed me too, even when they were making smart decisions. Oh well.
So yeah, I liked it but I didn't love it and its only the second best of the three.

6/10 quality, 6.5/10 entertainment.

Sean Astin was better than this movie deserved. It probably didn't help that he's the only one that got an actual character to play instead of a cliche. The lead was the worst and completely unable to emote. His friends had zero chemistry, and I'm surprised they didn't realize it before they started filming. The only other good thing is the effects, even though they're utilized in a less effective way than the original. I also did not really appreciate that they were working hard to turn this into a zombie movie.

Probably this one, but I don't really want to rewatch the second one to be sure. I do like Ti West's original ideas for the second movie more than this, though.

This wasn't so great, though I don't hate it. It had some so bad it's good parts (that dildo fight was hilarious), and I thought the jockish brother was surprisingly sympathetic (considering I figured he'd be really annoying when he was introed)

This one here wasn't all that bad and had some decent elements to it.

Much like the other films in the series, there's more than enough to like here with how this one really showcases the effects of the virus infecting everyone which really has a lot to this one. From the innocent way in which it's contracted, swimming in a lagoon while snorkeling and seeing the remains of the fish completely decomposed and rotting away gives this a solid origin point while the first scenes at the campsite where they come across their affliction are quite chilling with the discovery of the splotchy skin-marks and the excessive bleeding found makes for a wholly impressive start to this one.

Likewise, once they finally understand the true nature of what's happening to them this one really picks up with the enhanced and ultra-violent gore effects that leads into the battles in the lab showcasing the infected corpses rotting away while dealing with the aftermath of the experiments of the doctor leftover here in the various tunnels and control rooms that gives this one quite a great deal of action-packed fun.

Even the way it manages to go for the big final battles where this one gets involved with the race to keep the infected quarantined away with gun-play that keeps breaking down in a series of brawling and escapes showing their effects of the disease while getting to the chasing and escapes that occur at the beach which makes for a bloody, thrilling series of scenes throughout here. Combined along with the truly graphic and brutal bloodletting which really goes overboard showcasing some rather bloody outcomes, these here make for quite an enjoyable time here.

There's a few things that do hold this one down, specifically the scenes with the infected in the quarantine zone against his will which are just quite bland and serve very little purpose for the film. They devolve into the same general scene of him simply yelling at the glass wall about his revenge and illegal capture while not really generating anything for the storyline which just really makes them seem pointless and unnecessary.

Likewise, the other real flaw here is the fact that the group's sheer stupidity and inability to recognize danger here gives the first half here quite a bland build-up as it's hard to really care about them when they knowingly stay in the location with their friends getting sick and succumbing to the virus that's escalating out of hand.

There's very little about them that makes for an enjoyable time, and gives this one some trouble getting started which hold this one back.
Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup?

Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs.
