I am a fan of Park Chan-Wook, especially loving 'A Bizarre Love Triangle', and this did not disappoint.

I can see why some more normal cinema goers didn't like it, and I heard people in the cinema go "That was the strangest movie I've ever seen." as we walked out... I guess they don't see as wide a variety of movies as I figure we do.

Recommended to fans of his already, a great adition to his already rich body of work.

India Stoker (Mia Wasikowska) was not prepared to lose her father and best friend Richard (Dermot Mulroney) in a tragic auto accident. The solitude of her woodsy family estate, the peace of her tranquil town, and the unspoken somberness of her home life are suddenly upended by not only this mysterious accident, but by the sudden arrival of her Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode), whom she never knew existed. When Charlie moves in with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evie (Nicole Kidman), India thinks the void left by her father's death is finally being filled by his closest bloodline. Soon after his arrival, India comes to suspect that this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives. Yet instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless young woman becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

I couldn't agree with you more.

This was without a doubt one of the best films I've seen this year, especially in theaters. It packed a surprising emotional punch, had a couple of curveballs in the violence department without being gratuitous and gory about it (this kind of film really doesn't NEED gore anyway). The characters were fleshed out and while exaggerated in some aspects, felt grounded enough for me to still believe their actions and words. I cared about all of them in some ways, from the jealous and rather desperate yet oddly sympathetic Evelyn to the conflicted and boxed-in India, to the nosy but well meaning Gwen, and of course...the charismatic and dark Charles whose actor stole the show in many scenes effortlessly. The acting was top notch and there were plenty of discomforting and suspenseful scenes to go around. This tackled a few harsh themes that most mainstream films tend to just mention. The use of Summer Wine was fantastic and is one of my favorite uses of a song in film in the last several years. I definitely plan on seeing it again and I can't recommend it enough. This is certainly a film that lingers with you for a while after seeing it.

It was in a few independent theaters around me for a week but due to my lack of money I didn't see it. It is playing in Philadelphia now and I don't think I need to go more than an hour to see it. Buying the Blu-Ray.

Also, where did you see it John? You told me it wasn't playing anywhere near you...

It was at some random small theater near me called Cinema 4 or something. They're also playing Life Of Pi now and are playing Holy Motors in a couple weeks.

Off-topic, but go see it.

Also, since this is getting a directors cut in two months, do you think any extra scenes were needed in the film to "flesh out" the story and such?

Why see Holy Motors in a theater when it's already on Netflix? Lol.

/offtopic

And I can't think of anything that the film really NEEDS to feel more complete or whatever. It's honestly fine as it is.

Never knew it was on Netflix.

Looking forward to it. I like the look of it from the trailer (I saw it before Evil Dead). Unfortunately, it looks like it won't be getting a wide theatrical release here, so I will probably have to wait for it to hit DVD before I can see it.
