Ghosts, monsters, beasties... close enough. This looks a bit too much like a copy of Men in Black for my tastes. I might check it out as a daytime matinee, but it's not high up on my list. |

Definitely not horror, but along the veins of (loosely) Beetlejuice, and you see that pop up on horror sites. Ryan Reynolds being my favorite actor, I will see it. That said, the first trailer only looks okay. We'll see. |

Whenever I see Jeff Bridges in promo for this movie, all I can think of is Colonel Sanders. |

My thoughts of this keep changing. On one hand, it looks like it could be a fun blast. On the other, it seems somewhat generic and lifeless. I'll just have to see I guess...but I won't be seeing it in theaters. |

No offense to those interested in seeing it, but judging from the trailers I thought this one looked nothing short of *terrible*. Much like WORLD WAR Z, I have little doubt that I will *never* see this. J.N. |

I liked the banter between Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds characters. The plot wasn't too horrible and you can't really say no to Kevin Bacon. I say it's pretty decent, not like perfect, but kept me interested. |

Got a DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack of this when my video store had a liquidation sale. It's actually not that bad. Jeff Bridges is quite fun. The movie has sort of a "MEN IN BLACK... but with ghosts" kind of feel to it.

^ I agree. That's exactly what it felt like and I like the Men In Black movies so that might be why I didn't hate this as much as some people do. There's really not TOO much to say about it, surprisingly. It was pretty much just a fun popcorn movie with a balance of good effects and action setpieces and cheesy, fake looking parts. The stuff with the Indian food and how that causes certain 'reactions' was pretty funny and unique, and I LOVED the way the ending was handled. Pretty big scale and the look of those 'suction storm things' reminded me of The Day After Tomorrow and Into The Storm, lol. I was REALLY surprised to see Mary Louise Parker in this and like Danielle Harris in Shiver and how I couldn't separate the character from Danielle herself, I really couldn't separate Mary's character here from Nancy Botwin in the show Weeds. And that's perfectly fine with me since I LOVE Nancy (and Mary in general ). She was really funny and sarcastic and I loved her lines and mannerisms. Like others said, Jeff and Ryan had pretty great chemistry and plenty of fun (and funny) moments together. Loved the zingers (the part about the skullfucking and Roy getting offended over it, LOL!) and how they butted heads. They made a pretty solid team. Kevin Bacon made for a great movie; this actually made me remember why I really like him. This was really entertaining and never boring, which is a relief. I liked that the ending didn't happen how I expected it to. I thought it was going to turn out that Spoiler: click to toggle That would've been pretty lame and predictable so it's good that it ended differently. ![]() Overall, this was pretty fun but like others said, it's nothing GREAT. 6/10 quality. 7.5/10 entertainment. |

This was actually quite a bit of fun that managed to get some rather good times from it. The most noticeable effort in here is the rather over-the-top nature of the action scenes here which manage to get full use of their participants' supernaturally-enhanced abilities which allows for such engaging scenes as the battle in the apartment complex, the chase through the office buildings and the blazing gunfight at the finale which is the expected-grand showstopper which includes the car chase through the city streets, a phenomenal amount of destruction along the way that's quite breathtaking, a slew of frantic gunplay-heavy shootouts and the utterly impressive resolution that makes the whole scene a rather enjoyable and exciting one. Likewise, the opening police assault that signals the course of events throughout here tends to rank as exciting as well, and the general feel of this one leads to some pretty exciting scenes. It also manages to get quite a bit of fun out of the general goofy tone of it all, from the situation as a whole to the hilarious running gag of who they appear to be towards the outside world and the sarcastic tone they have with each other which helps this out quite a bit. The storyline could've used a little more work on integrating him into their world a little easier since he does kinda drop in without any kind of notice or warning and the wholesale plot is a bit underwritten, but overall this was quite enjoyable. |
