Eric Binford watches a lot of movies. He is the truest definition of a film geek. One day, his sanity takes a turn for the worse and he begins acting out his favorite scenes from the movies. In doing so, he manages to involve his enemies and the scenes usually result in death.

I need to watch this one again because I haven't seen it in a while. I watched it when I first bought it with Hell Night(one of my favorites) and haven't watched it again. I remember it being pretty good.

I need to see this. I have wanted to see it for years and years, but I have never been able to track it down. I've always loved the plot and the trailer on YouTube made it look like a really cool movie. This has been on my "To Get" list for a long time.

Starting this in an hour or so after I finish these essay notes. (goo) Someone else should watch it so we can post our thoughts at around the same time.

This felt pretty classy right away. This was the third movie-related Horror movie I've watched over the last day or so; totally unintentional.

Stella aka HoverRound Momma was such a BITCH! She was really entertaining and memorable and not as abusive as many douchebag parents in movies, but she still grated on me. It was only inevitable that she'd
Spoiler: click to toggle
She really bugged me when she blamed Eric for her injury; I wish they'd went deeper with that since I wondered what exactly happened. The twist involving Stella was really cool too, though not entirely necessary.

Halloween, Tourist Trap, The Mummy, Night Of The Living Dead, Dracula, Creature From The Black Lagoon, various Marilyn Monroe films, many MANY classic non-Horror films, Psycho...they're all referenced in-your-face or subtly nodded to throughout this. This handled the whole 'movies don't make psychos, movies make psychos more creative' thing better than even Scream did. (coffee) Takes more than a cool mask, a couple of movie nerds and movie-title-name-drops and trivia to make the 'point' of Horror's (or movies in general in the case of this film's main character) hammered home. This handled that aspect PERFECTLY from the recreation of the Psycho shower scene, to the blood drink, mummy walk, grand finale, Chinese Theater (!) sequence, an many other awesome things, this lovingly paid its respects to dozens of films - even having black&white clips of old films spliced into the film, making for a dizzying, frantic cut-job during some scenes as 'reality' directly copied 'fantasy' (the movies Eric obsessed over).

Eric was so adorable; even pretty sexy at times (yes, sexy (chew) ) and I LOVED all of his different costumes, voices/accents, make up jobs, etc. The bet with the other two guys he worked with, and what that eventually led to, was pretty awesome. I did NOT recognize Mickey Rourke (Richie)! The fact that Moriarty was as obsessed with the link between film and real life violence as Eric was with movies and Marilyn Monroe made for a terrific set up.

Speaking of Marilyn, she was a great secondary lead. Sure, we often went lengthy periods of time without seeing her or her (ultimately pointless) best friend but when we did see her, she stole the show without seeming to try. She wasn't the brightest bulb but didn't really have to be.

As for the kills, we only got a few but still enough to be seen as a slasher film imo (though many would disagree, including HysteriaLives, it seems). While not really bloody, some were awfully creative. I don't want to spoil ANY of them here; even in tags. Watch for yourself and we can gush over them together later. ;)

Eric was one of the best leads I've seen lately. I felt really bad for him the same way I felt bad for May in...May (though I still prefer her, of course). The scene where

and when
Spoiler: click to toggle
Gah. A lot of stuff involving him actually made me feel...pretty crummy. Hell, the whole movie made me feel sort of 'down' which is NOT how I expected to feel when watching an 80s slasher. (lol) But that's a good thing. A VERY good thing.

One complaint of mine is that two or three more people; preferably

should've been killed, just to send the bodycount into the double digits. :P Still, that's a small problem in a sea of AMAZING things. Loved this! :)

7/10 quality. 8.5/10 entertainment.

I really liked this. A lot of the film references were a nice bonus. I think my favorite scene like that was the one with Stella. It's setting up a kill that is going to be obvious to anyone watching, so they start out the scene by having him be watching a film that makes it even more obvious what's going to happen. It was really fun.

There are also layers of references. There's obvious ones, but there are also more subtle ones. I feel like I could probably watch this a dozen times without catching all of them.

I'd really like to one day do a marathon of the crime movies that Eric watches and follow it up with this. All those movies are excellent, and I think it would be really fun.

I always thought Dennis Christopher was adorable, but I think he was probably at his cutest in this, and I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought so. His Cagney impression was probably my favorite.

Marilyn passed for Marilyn Monroe really well, which I definitely liked. It was a great impersonation that only seemed fake when they wanted it to, which I think is one of the best indications that they put a lot of thought into putting this movie together.

The ending was amazingly over-the-top.

In a movie full of kind of weird things, I think the weirdest was them eating crackers in bed, especially since the guy just yanked them up from beneath the covers like they were having sex with the box between their body or something.

REALLY happy that you liked this! Imo, it's one of the best films of 1980. Glad you thought Dennis was cute in this since this sort of made me develop a slight crush on him. I can't remember if I mentioned this in my review or not but I thought the masturbation scene was as hot as it was disturbing. Call me weird. (wary) I loved all of his character-inspired attacks. It's REALLY rare for us to get Horror films that have the killer being inspired by NON-Horror films AND Horror films in equal amounts and this handled it really well. Has he been in any other Horror films by any chance?

I really want to check out more of the non-Horror films that were referenced/shown in this. I've seen some but not all. I want a complete list of movies this referenced/showed clips of/paid homage to.
I'm going to be showing this to Robby next time I see him and I'm really excited since I've been wanting to rewatch it since a few days after I first saw it<3. It NEEDS a special edition. I'd buy it on day one (unless it's like $30 or something; then it might have to wait).

This is also one of the best movies I've seen that was released on October 14th (my birthday). (cool) Always nice finding gems released on that day, even if it was 12 years before I was born.

He was in Doppelganger. I think he did more horror television. He was in a few episodes in the last season of Angel. I didn't watch enough episodes to remember how much he was in it, but he was also in FreakyLinks. He also did a SciFi miniseries, The Lost Room, which I thought was pretty good. Oh, and It, which probably should have been listed first.

I wish it was popular enough for someone to put together a massive list on imdb. I would bet that it would be a pretty big project, because there are just so many. I got overwhelmed just trying to make a list of the references that I really liked.

I almost want a remake just to see what films would be referenced NOW. I'd love it if they squeezed a Speed reference in there somehow by having a bomb go off on a bus, farfetched as that may sound.

And I really should check out the things you just listed off. Dennis<3.

I watched this with a couple people, and you would have thought I was showing it to the Dennis Christopher fanclub based on how many people commented about him being in this and how cute he is.

Eh, or a bomb on a cruise ship.

I'm going through my clips to make gifs, and he apparently had the crackers and the remote under the blanket with them when they were having sex. He also had an open beer in the bed next to his pillow.

I do wanna see this, but all the reviews that say this is a faux slasher, have me worried.
