Jane Hardy decides to stay the summer in the house her aunt left her when she died, to try and recoup from a bad divorce. Little does she know, her aunt practiced witchcraft and is still thought of very badly by the town's citizens. As soon as she moves in, she is haunted by a old black hearse and it's creepy driver. Is she going insane or is she truly being menaced? She meets a friendly young man and becomes involved with him, but is he and the creepy driver one and the same?

I saw this today. Pretty decent. It has a creepy atmosphere, it's not scary though. No jump scares or anything scary. I loved the music. The twist is very typical though. I seen the type of twist in other movies. The ending I felt was abrupt and made me wonder what else happened. Although you can guess what happened but there are some stuff that is left unknown.
Oh yea don't expect any gore in this. It's all about suspense and atmosphere.

This was pretty good. Not incredibly scary or a teen slasher movie, but interesting nonetheless with some good atmosphere.

I definitely loved the atmosphere but the film itself was just decent. Didn't like the ending.
I am guessing

Surprised at the lack of gore/blood here, Michele. For some reason I figured it would be like...a more bloody version of The Car (1977) or something. (lol) Oh well, I'll still get around to it, bloody or bloodless.

Oh it's nothing related to the car movie No similar plot. It really has to do with the house she lived in and herself.
Yeah it's very bloodless but not a bad movie. Just disappointing and I hate abrupt bad endings.

Overall this was quite the disappointing effort. One of the film's few good points centers on the titular vehicle and the eerie, ominous air that really works effectively in this sort of effort, as not only is the moments where it appears quite impressive but also manages some decent moments here. The early scenes of the car appearing only for it to be unresponsive to her yelling at it before driving off makes for quite effective build-ups to the centerpiece sequence of it abducting her and dropping her off at the funeral which is quite chilling in concept before the disturbing idea of whether it's a dream or not as this one isn't clear wither way which makes it work. Likewise, the film really works in the final half when it finally lets itself go and features a lot to like from a tense chase through the house and eventually into the car chase in the finale all coming together quite well which really works for this one. That's about all that really works here for this one as there's a few rather challenging parts to hold this down. The main factor here is the fact that there's hardly any action whatsoever in the first half here which really makes the first half incredibly tough to get into. Consisting mainly of drawn-out and lame scenes around the town, a rather trite and lame romance and endless scenes of her around the house slowly succumbing to the presence in the house, all of which is insanely dull and just not that interesting. Scenes of her arguing with a lawyer trying to settle an accounting error in the estate, trying to secure a local handyman or just generally being harassed for living there don't make for all that exciting times which is basically all that's featured here. There's a few small haunting thrown in to confuse this as a horror film, yet none of them last nearly as long as the seemingly endless and overlong drama scenes that don't do much of anything for the pace or storyline here. The other big flaw here is the fact that there's hardly any motivation for the romance which tends to come in from out of nowhere and further bog down the pacing here with some really tired and lame scenes that don't have any real impact on the film itself. These here are the film's big problems which hold it down quite heavily.

I don't know about cringe-worthy (that's above and beyond my scope of viewing prowess) but I do know that it does keep the horror elements from coming into play for a large majority of the time.

"Why don't you just crawl back into that old hearse of yours - and drop dead!"

So the romantic stuff wasn't as overwhelming as I expected it to be.

The score was really good but I might just think that because I love piano scores so much. I was expecting a basic killer car flick thanks to the title and poster (I forgot all about the reviews I read and the plot description, so I pretty much just watched it blind) but instead, it was something else entirely. I liked Jane a lot which is a really good thing since she carried the entire film. Her voice was rather soothing at times and she was totally adorable.

The revering gave off a weird vibe. Jane's overall predicament reminded me of a more extreme version of what I'm dealing with here in Florida - unwelcoming locals who rely on 'outsiders' but decide to make their lives a living hell anyway. Jane was told by a kid that her parents didn't want her talking to Jane, I've been told by people in their twenties (and THIRTIES even!!) that they can't talk to me because their parents don't want them to. She was constantly asked why she decided to move to the town which is the same sort of thing I'm asked by some random person at least once per week (!) even though I've lived here five years. So I could identify with Jane, easily. (coffee)

The 'coffin/silent screaming' church scene was kind of hokey but was also weird in a really good way. The brief attack a little over an hour into it was satisfying and effective...but maybe that's just because I love it when attackers punch through doors to grab someone on the other side.

"You city women are goddamn crazy!" - The Most Useless Fucking Sheriff In The Whole Wide World

It could've used a bit more violence but overall it was a pretty good movie. I liked the climax a lot but the hearse

I can't wait to buy and read the book. I have a feeling I might like it more than the movie.

6/10 quality, 6.5/10 entertainment.
