Horror Quote Of The Moment

Welcome to Under The Morgue.

We have sections for each decade of film, from the 1910s onward, as well as sections for 10+ major franchises, close to 50 'smaller' franchises (containing five entries or less), creative writing, independent filmmaking, photography, music, Non-Horror films and TV shows, forum games, and boredom busters, and to top it all off there's an IM shoutbox at the bottom of the page for random chat. From the tame and 'kid sister friendly' to the psychological and mindbending to cheesy splatter flicks to hardcore torture-oriented horror, there's something here for everyone, so why not dive in?

In the not too distant future, people battle their worst enemy; the sun.

Can't you see it? The effects of cinema violence on society?

This.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's still on Netflix. I've avoided it though. Not even sure why since it seems right down my alley. I just hope the quality isn't piss poor.

So the plot description is pretty...incorrect. While the sun is an issue here, its people who are the main 'bringers of harm' in this film. It has the most overdone, basic plotline for a film of this kind (postapocalyptic wasteland, small band of survivors, good guys get targeted by a group of savages, etc) but it works in its favor...when its not being riddled with clichés, of course. The death order and general outcome are pretty predictable but there are a few scenes of genuine tension that actually had me on edge and feeling like MAYBE I was wrong about how the film would end (but sadly I was right, meh). One character disappears for 40 minutes, one goes from being a lead to being a background character for a solid 20 minutes, and one is just annoying, bratty, pointless for the most part and

The pace also dragged for the first half but after that it picks up, evens out, and then BOOM! The third act starts, people start getting killed in ways ranging from so-so to pretty decent and then it just...ends, I guess. Still worth watching though for the striking look of the film, a couple of likeable leads, and the blinding sun which made every scene feel scalding, gross, and well...stinky. I recommend it, but only if you're patient and can handle some pretty big flaws.

6-7/10 quality. 6-6.5/10 entertainment.
